View Full Version : Proper corny keg cleaning
If I PBW a corny and let it sit for a day and then flip it over and let it sit for another day will everything be properly cleaned (i.e. poppets, posts & tubes)? Or should I disassemble the whole thing?

This method of getting the beer kegged takes 1 hour of which 35 minutes is unattended.
PRELIM: Chill the beer to 40 degrees to floc the yeast.
1. Disassemble the keg. Separate out/in tubes and rings.
2. Rinse the keg with hot water.
3. Drop the out tube into the keg.
4. Add PBW. Fill to the brim with 120-160 degree H2O.
5. Place parts in a bowl. Submerge in PBW solution.
6. Soak for 35 minutes.
7. Rack PBW to extra vessal. I use a bucket or fermentor. This step cleans the cane.
8. Rinse keg and all parts with hot water well.
9. Fill keg and out tube with sanatizer. Fill parts bowl with sanatizer as well. Soak for 5 minutes.
10. Assemble keg. Attach the CO2. Pressurize at 5 PSI. Check for leaks with sanatizer spray bottle.
11. Push the sanitizer out with CO2 into another vessal. Sanatize the cane.
12. Release pressure and open keg.
13. CO2 is now predominantly in the keg. Rack the beer and splash all you want.
14. Attach lid. Pressurize with 5 PSI. Check for leaks again.
15. Increase pressure to 25 PSI and shake the hell out of it. I roll it back and forth on the ground with my foot IN tube facing up for 20 minutes while checking email or whatever.
16. Let stand for an hour. Rack the PBW to the yeasty fermentor for cleaning. Let stand 35 minutes. Rinse. Rack Sanatizer to the fermentor. Let stand five minute. Shake. Rack to the drain. Now everything including the cane is ready for further adventures.
17. Chill. Reduce to 10 PSU, release preassure and serve.
Hope this helps.
