I've tried the Bulldog and Cooter Brown's. Are there any other good places to try new beers in NOLA? I'm a Tulane student and want to get a few more under my belt.

Here's a small list to get you started:

Geaux beer! (http://www.beeradvocate.com/beerfly/list?path=%2Fbeerfly%2Flist&sort=name&name=&city=new+orleans&s_id=LA&c_id=&zip=&area=&submit=+search+&brewery=Y&brewpub=Y&bar=Y)

Cheers!

I've been to Crescent City. It is decent but be careful of the oysters. Both a friend and myself got ill from food poisoning once. The only thing that we both ate was oysters at CC. None of the others who ate them go sick though. Also I've been to DBA in NYC. If the one in NO is as good then I'd recommend it. Abita Springs is not too far from NO. I had decent beer and food at Abita's brewpub.

I'm not but a couple hours from Abita and have never been. It's on the way to her parents house, so everytime we go to visit, I mention it. Guess she doesn't want me sampling too many before we get there. We are usually pressed for time on the way back, so it's a no go.

All it takes is one bad oyster (or 2 in your case) to give you the bends. The first time I had oysters was at Dragos out in Metarie by Lakeside Mall. They throw em on a grill for a moment to blacken the bottom with seasoning, so the oysters are not exactly cold but I wouldn't call them cooked either. Sorry this is a beer post.

I agree with the Abita Brew Pub, but it is a drive across the causeway to get to it. (Road trip for a saturday.) Everytime I have been in Naw'lins, I end up passing on Crescent City Brew, for some reason or another, not enough time, no else wants to go. Gordon Biersch is a new one, missed that one on my most recent visit it is across the street from Harrah's Casino on the corner of the parking garage for Harrah's, missed Gordon due to the only raining day that I was downtown and no one wanted to venture outside.

Lager's out in Metairie isnt bad, lots of beer of tap and some bottles. I have been to DBA in NOLA, I dont remember much about the beer, but they had a ton of whiskey. I have heard rumors though that point to DBA as your best source for good beer.

DBA has ton's of beer (you might want to take a cab leter at night, though...it's kinda on the fringe.

The Bulldog is pretty cool.

Crescent City has some decent beer; they had an IPA when I was there; it was very good. I believe they just started making ales, but it was a good one...although the waitstaff had no clue what an ale really is.

BTW...I don't think I had oysters there, but ate them raw darn near everyplace else.

I LOVE raw oysters and there are plenty of goodplaces in NO to get them. Even though I got sick that one time it has never swayed me from eating oysters. I can eat dozens!

That is excellent news about Gordon Biersch opening across from Harrahs. Harrahs is one of my favorite haunts in NO.

One of my favorite places to eat oysters was the Acme Oyster Bar on the Lakefront. Get out on the patio on the water across from the New Orleans Yacht Club with some suds, oysters, and sun. Very nice!

I've eaten at Acme Oyster House but not on the water. We have many places here that serve oysters too. I love em.
