Hey Folks-

I got sent to Las Vegas for the summer, and I just got my brew gear via UPS. I ran a "sample" test by filling my primary and setting it in the laundry room to see what the temp was gonna be. It's been hanging around 74 degrees. Any suggestions on keeping it cooler? Back home I used half a plastic barrel and rotated frozen 12oz water bottles, but don't have the space here for that.

I hate hot climates.......

Time for another experiment.

With the super dry climate there you might be able to do well with the "swamp cooler" idea. Put the fermenter in the barrel, put an old t-shirt on it and then put a couple of inches of water into the barrel. The t-shirt will wick the water up and cool the fermenter as the water evaporates. A fan playing over the whole thing helps too.

It doesn't work too well in humid NY but I understand that you can cool off an outdoor plaza in really dry areas by having mist emmitters on poles around the plaza, so 5 gallons of wort should be no problem!

Good Idea.....I'll give that a shot.

Just out of curiosity, do you livie in Yonkers? I lived off the Bronx River Parkway for a year or so and worked in White Plains....
