Stout in Dunoon Scotland

Many years ago in another life I was in Dunoon Scotland. They had a beer there that they called a "stout". It was kind of a deep dark brown and had a deep malty flavor. It didn't have the usual "burnt" flavor of a stout at all. I've spent many years trying to find out what it was. I would very much like brew something like that.

Could it have been Younger's Sweetheart Stout? It's a very low abv dark brew.

Lets see. The last time I was there was sometime in 1970. It was served in a hotel bar that was called "The American Hotel" or something like that. I don't know if that was the real name. It might have just been called that because it seems that most of the Americans hung out there. It was on the south side of the main street downtown.

It does seem that I did find it in a couple other pubs around town.
