Apparently the Pony Express Brewery is up and running again! No opinion on if this is good or bad, but my belief is, hey, if it's a micro-brewery and they can give it their best, that can't be bad!
My understanding is the original brewmaster is back and they have new financing - and have already introduced one new brew (I've seen it in plastic bottles, and frankly that makes me a little leery) - and they should be coming out with up to 3-4 other new styles (so I've heard).
My thoughts on this:
They are (or were) lacking a cash cow brew - we all know it takes that one brew that has an element of "mass appeal" to get a micro over the hump in sales - it may be a compromise to beer-purists, but it really is for the betterment of the micro. It will allow them to provide more traditional, less "mass appealing" brews that many of us enjoy.
Previous Pony Express brews have not been altogether great - I hope this is more a representation of funding issues, and not the liking of the brewmaster (or they will likely encounter the same issues that put them in a negative cash flow situation to begin with). At the same time, I can understand how difficult it would be to start up a micro-brewery and find a pulse on what the community is looking for before the well runs dry - So, without being negative or doomsday, let me say, I really am glad Pony Express is back in business, and I hope they are here to stay -
