Hello! My name is Rick, and I am trying to find a way to purchase a brand of German Beer called Bischoff Pils. I live in the U.S., and my search has not been real successful up to this point. Can anyone help?

I don't think I can help, but let me be first to welcome you to the boards. I'm sure you will enjoy any time spent here.

I'll write that down and check the paint store this afternoon and let you know.

Welcome, Rick! Here's another discussion about Bischoff from a few weeks back. Might have some links to finding Bischoff in your area. Worst case scenario - I think we determined the importer in in Florida - worth a call to see if they distribute to the St. Louis area.

Thank You! I appreciate your help.
I have contacted Import A-N-T Wines, located in Venice FL. I spoke to a guy named George,(who runs the business, I think) and he told me that they DO distripute Bischoff Pils beer. However, he couldn't sell any to me personally. I think he only distrubutes to local business.

Welcome. Possibly a board member here can find it and send it to you.

Are you related to the brewery in any way?

That would be nice. :)
I don't think I'm related to the Brewery in any way, but you never know.
Thank you for you help.

Most importers/distributers can't sell directly to consumers. The three-tier system in the US makes retail stores the consumer outlet. Ask the importer if they have any retail accounts in your area or if they are looking for any - best to provide a few stores' names where Bischoff might sell well. Can't hurt. Worked for me - I put a Belgian importer in touch with a local distributer - now we get beers like Boon, Petrus, Piraat, etc. Working on Poperings Hommel Bier.

As Chaz mentioned, trades are always an option in the meantime.

Cheers!

Rick,
I finally found Bischoff Pils in the US!! But its only in florida and they can't ship outside of Florida. Go to ABC Liquors. They carry it year round.

Would you be willing to buy some and trade Rick or ship it to Rick?

Welcome to the board too. Lots of us swap beer.

I have bad news to report... ABC is having a close out of Bischoff.. I have been able to buy it at $3.99 a 6 pack, but they are all cold.. they did not sell enough to keep it on stock.. IF I can find a warm 6 pack, I can send some to you..:(

That's too bad, but what does it matter whether you buy a warm sixer or not. The beer has undoubtedly gone through some temperature changes on its way from the brewery to the retailer's shelf/cooler. Unless it was exposed to extreme temps or lots of light, it should be OK if it's relatively fresh. Hell, for $4/sixer, snap it up!

Cheers!

Um...OK. Lots of breweries (esp. imports) might store their beer cold, have it warm up in transit to the states, only to have it delivered to a retailer who then puts it in their cooler. Temperature changes, unless extreme, won't harm beer. Extreme heat, time and light are beer's enemies. Few breweries have the resources to keep all their beer cold at all times. A few craft brewers like Anchor insist on it, but I'd say they are the exception.

Cheers!

That is some very bad news. George (@ ABC) is a really nice guy, and I wish I could do business with him from here in the midwest. With the risk of sounding desperate...I would appreciate it if you (Chaz) could send me a cold "sixer" or two. I understand your logic regarding the cold/warm/cold issue, but it would be my only chance at getting a taste of the fine Bischoff brew.
Hell... if it taste that bad, I'll poor it out and display the empty bottle in my wife china cabinet:D

Cheers!!

Rick, I will check with the ABCs in the area (2) and find out if I can get a couple of warm ones.. If not, I will go ahead and buy it for you and hopefully it won't taste too bad... I was able to drink it from the tap while I was stationed in Germany and mmmmmmmm. I will reply to this thread on Friday after I make the run to give you the status.

Rick..Bischoff Bier is brewed in Winweiler, Germany. It's near Sembach, Air Base. I was stationed there in 1956 and was there this past May (2005). I have some good pictures of the Bischoff Brewery. Very good beer.
I have also been trying to find a place to buy the beer. Looks like the distributor in Venice only sells to businesses.
I'm going to Germany next year and will be able to buy lots of Bischoff at local Gasthaus'.

Grunstadt.. I wish you had posted earlier in the year as I brought a 6 pack from Florida in early August to San Antonio.. I have a rental home in Schertz... I can still buy it from the local ABC, but they have it on closeout and I don't know how much longer I will be able to get it!!:(

maybe next time I go that way, I can bring some IF I can still get it..

Chaz....Schertz is right next door to where I live..Universal City. I'm a real estate broker so I know pretty much all areas around San Antonio.
If y ou come this way again let me know and I'll pay you for 2 or 3 six packs if it's not too much trouble.

My M-I-L is heading over next month and asked the wife and I to join her but I'm not fond of staying with family. I like to be somewhat independant when I travel. Otherwise you have to sit and wait around for everyone to get ready to go out and do stff and also sometimes their plans interfere with my own. I am feeling a yearning though. And I'm always willing to go. I feel the same about Britian. I usually get there once a year as well. But I sure don't mind spending time relaxing at the beach either. Only problem is that my RV is sitting unused. I might sell it when and if gas comes back down.

SteveH, wanna get a trip to Germany up?

Chaz..Randolph is 5 minutes from my house. I belong to an Intel group of guys that were stationed in Germany in the mid 50's. We were supposed to have a reunion in Biloxi next month....so much for that. I love Germany and tell Gisela it's "meine heimat) (my homeland).

Rick, Just joined the post and noticed I am not the only one that love the taste of Bischoff. I don't know if you have been to the brewery website or not but here it is.

Also when I can take some pictures I will post some of the items I purchased while I was there.

I know I'm digging up a very old thread, but:

Just before Christmas, there was some kind of festival in downtown Chicago, Kris Kringle fest or something, but it had a very German/Bavarian theme to it. Some of the beer stands had Bischoff on tap, many, many glorious kegs of it, both regular and dünkel. (To no surprise, I saw many an amateur beer drinker throwing out half empty cups in disgust and bewilderment. This made me laugh inside, as I would brush my teeth with the dünkel if I could.) I jumped on it the moment I saw they had a REAL german beer, and the SWMBO and myself shared one of each. So, the point is, I have seen Bischoff being sold in the midwest. I don't know where they got it, or anything like that.

Thank you

The festival you refer to is the Christkindlmarket Chicago.
http://www.christkindlmarket.com/

I was there on December 5th, and had the Bischoff beers on offer. One was a pils, which was very enjoyable, and the other was the winterbock, which was only so-so. It was the first time I had Bischoff beers.
