I brewed a beer today based on a clone recipe of Dead guy Ale.
After everything was in the carboy, my SG reading was 1.092 (71°F)...I was expecting around 1.070 or just under.
I checked it again after about 6 hours...1.062 (66°F).
I'm not sure how to explain the difference...I did use Irish moss which I usually don't use. Could the suspended particles of protein and such create an artificially high SG??; i did notice a lot of floaties in the wort.
Most of my beers hit ProMash's estimates within a couple of points. This is the first one to have this kind of discrepancy.
