I started with Mr. BEER, have since moved on (just a crawl). My question is, Are plastic bottles as bad as I have read on this site? They came with the kit and I used them, in the instruct they also mentioned using soda bottles.
I have since started to drink my way toward a collection of cappable bottles (WHOO HOO what a way to collect). I already had a Kegerator all set up for store bought kegs, and I have an empty soda keg, and will persue making that work in the near future.......Guess I am diving in with both feet.....but if I gotta drown....might as well be in beer I guess.
Thanks

I think the soda bottles give off flavors, and they can let oxygen into the beer too. I just racked from my mr beer into a glass secondary, i'll use the mr beer for my bottling vessel, then I'm probably done with it for awhile, maybe forever, the glass carboys are so nice!
Drinking all these beers for the bottles can seem tedious sometimes, but someones got to do it! I've got 8 cases of samuel adams bottles, and 24 22oz Heineken bottles. And I aint capped a single bottle yet. I like the heineken bottles alot, they would cut bottling time in half. I think I'm going to save them for wine or mead though.

Thanks for the replies, as I am going through (rather quickly) my first batch, I have noticed that the glass bottles seem to be more carbonated. I am assuming that maybe because the glass is more rigid and does not give any that it forces co2 more into the beer? I dunno.....guess it needs more reasearch....guess I'll have a few dozen more to get a good controlled test......Can't wait for batch 2. Tough to deal with the wait huh?

Like Tom Petty said, "The waiting is the hardest part." I just kegged a batch on Saturday to force carbonate it, and I brewed on Sunday my next batch of beer. All this beer being around could be a bad thing...
