The wife and I have been shopping for homes in Bend, Oregon recently and I'm just blown away by the town's awesome craft beer scene.

Downtown Bend
Deschutes Brewery Public House - this place is by far my favorite of the bunch. All of Deschutes' brews on tap plus 5 or 6 beers available only at the pub. Also have Obsidian Stout on nitro, as well as 2 cask conditioned ales. Great food as well.

McMenamins - a brewpub, a bar, a bed and breakfast, and more all in a former Catholic school. The beers are very drinkable, and aside from their own stuff, they pour beers from ALL the local breweries. Food is pretty good, although their service is still getting sorted out.

Bend Brewing Co. - a really nice brewpub with great views from the deck. Their beers are good, solid representations of various styles, nothing crazy here, just good drinking. Their IPA is wonderful. Always have a couple of seasonals too.

On the Rocks (hope I got the name right) - is a nice little pub with about 24 taps. I had beers from Terminal Gravity, Bridgeport, Big Sky, Full Sail, and Rockies Brewing. Food is fair, but the pool tables are great.

Outside of downtown
Cascade Lakes "The Lodge" - is a large alehouse/restaurant that features all of Cascade Lakes Brewing's beers, some pretty good stuff. This place is huge, looking like a ski lodge, and has a big game room upstairs.

Nearby
A couple of homebrew shops, one with a brewery/tasting room attached.

Deschutes Brewing Company's BIG production brewery

Cascade Lakes Brewing Company's production brewery in Redmond

7th Street Alehouse (Cascade Lakes) in Redmond

Bendistillery - a small, local distillery that produces great gin and vodka

All in all a really great place in Central Oregon with a ton of great drinking options.

My pastor and his wife just attended a retreat at the Edgefield McMenamins - he said he thought of me every time he passed any sort of breweriana. :) Nice to know I'm well thought of!

If you haven't been, I'm going to suggest you travel up the road to Portland.
You will be floored at the beer scene.
I think there are 38 breweries/brewpubs in the metro area.
Everyone loves beer.
Although I've never made it down to Bend, I'm sure it's a smaller version (albeit with more tourists).
If you do make it up this way, pm me, maybe we can meet up for a pint.

Good luck on the move.

Bill

Chaz - I'll be heading up permanantly sometime in September or October. I've got to get out of this town before I loose what's left of my sanity.

Bat - Yes, I'm well versed in Portland's beer scene. It's about as close to nirvana as some of us can get. Example - arrive in Portland, must stop at Full Sail's Pilsner Room for a couple of cask pints. Then one goes home shopping for a couple of days. Head back to Portland, stopping at Mt. Hood Brewing for a pint, then into Portland with stops at Rose and Raindrop, Horse Brass, and Belmont Station for some bottles to take home. I'm very pleased to be moving to such a wonderful place.

Next time, try shopping for beer at John's Marketplace, on Multnomah. Over 800 different beer and it's a little bit cheaper than Belmont.
Also go by the Moon & Sixpence, another great British style pub.
