Drink to much

I brewed and bottled a IPA last summer and took them on vacation. I had a case in the back of my truck with a camper shell on it. The temperature got in the high 80's and several bottles exploded. My question would be is it the heat that caused this or a problem with my bottling?
Thanks

the heat would increase the pressure, and would also make any yeast or bacteria (if you had an infection) more active, thus more fermentation,and....
POW!!

Why does this not happen to commercial beers?

They're filtered. And the carbonation level is set before bottling, and I'll bet it's a little lower than what you had in your homebrew. Just a guess.

I did not have a problem until they were in a hot environment, do you think I used too much priming sugar when I bottled? This is the only time this happened, I think that if I had them out of the heat all would be good. I could not believe the force in which these blew and I am glad no body was close when this happened.

I know what you mean - I tried to naturally carb root beer 15 years ago. I lost about 1/3 of the batch, and I have no idea if the rental company ever got the sticky glass out of the carpet in the closet. :o
