Yowsa! Can't imagine that will stay on eBay very long...

The auction has actually been running for well over a week, so far.

I believe that is why the owner put in a disclaimer about it not being for consumption.

Chaos.

Actually I would have to say that beers like Sam Adams Millenium Edition of their Triple Bock, Dog Fish Heads 120 minute, and possibly the entire Stone Vertical Epic would be some of the most extreme..

There have also been some Hempen beers done in this country, we did one in our pub back in the Fall of '99.

Yeah, hemp brews aren't that rare. Been done before.

Drink 'em if ya got 'em (http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/index/date/all/hemp/)

Never understood the fuss about 'em - overreactive, overprotective, beer-ignorant people throw a fit when the word "hemp" is put on a product? Guess they don't know about hops relationship to cheeba

Cheers, man!

I think ebay has rules about selling alchohol, so that's why anyone that sells full bottles of beer, liquor, etc. usually puts some disclaimer about being a collectable only, not for consumption, etc. Even though most buyer, sellers (and probably ebay itself) knows that for some products, they absolutely will be consumed. Kind of like, how if you see tickets on ebay for an event in MN (which has anti-scalping laws on the books), you will typically see the tickets sold for face value or less, along with some other "item" to jack the price up. For example, last year I remember seeing a bumper sticker for a local radio station on ebay for something like $250, with Twins playoff tickets thrown in for "free". I guess it's all in how you word it....

Although I have never tried one (and therefore I am judging a book by its cover), I can't get over the feeling that hemp brews are more gimmick than anything else. One look at the label on the e-Bay offering and you can guess what the target audience is. Does hemp add anything to a brew other than marketing possibilities?

Again, I've never tried one of these, so I admit I could be totally off base here.

Frederick Brewing has made Hempen Ale which was available in my area. I never tried it. I did have a Hemp beer at a brewpub in Montreal last October. It was nothing special.

I had a hemp beer a couple years ago, but I can't remember from who. Like Chaz, I found it unremarkable. IIRC, they used hemp seeds which imparted a somewhat nutty flavor profile, but other than that, I suspect it was more a gimmick beer than anything.

I think many of them use "sterilized" hemp seeds. And I have always considered them a gimmick too. I guess that's why I never got around to trying the Frederick Hempen. I'm not certain it is still made.

Actually that is the target audience but it does not have any of those effects.

Of course. Dave's comment just struck me funny - kind of like when my friend said he went shopping for camouflage clothing but he didn't see any. ;)

Yeah - it was a very Steven Wright type of comment - like his friend who had the circular driveway, and couldn't get out. ;)

I have very vague recollections of the Fredrick Hempen. Non discript ale if I recall. Not really sure what tastes it would impart if any, not to mention that commercial hemp has very little THC in it.

I can't stand how we're keeping hemp illegal here - there are so many cool things that could be done with it! And none of them have anything to do with THC.

I was thinking it was Steven Wrightish too. "Our school colors were............clear"

Is hemp illegal? I thought it was used in ropemaking. I also know that george Washington grew hemp at Mt. Vernon.

fretlessman71

It can't be grown here. Colorado just barely missed passing a law that would have allowed it.

Well I'm sure synthetic rope is superior anyway.

I have no clue as to whether that is correct, but I'm guessing that the proponents of hemp production would take issue with it. I just did an "askjeeves" search for "is hemp illegal" and found that this is a very passionate topic for some.

Probably kept the law from being passed to protect an illegal cash crop. I know some state economys probably need the revenue

Nah - the people chose not to let it be. We voted on it - for some reason we get to do that a lot!

Steven Wright - loved him back in the day...

I went down the street to the 24-hour grocery. When I got there, the guy was locking the front door. I said, "Hey, the sign says you're open 24 hours." He said, "Yes, but not in a row."

In my house there's this light switch that doesn't do anything. Every so often I would flick it on and off just to check. Yesterday, I got a call from a woman in Madagascar. She said, "Cut it out."

I had to put masking tape on all the mirrors in my house, So I would'nt slip into another dimension.

Funny thing is that hemp grows naturally all over the the midwest. You can find it in almost any field. Had some sprout up in my driveway when I lived in Iowa. ;)

Frederick's wasn't bad. It had a nutty aftertaste, similar to walnuts.
My friend and I tried brewing a "hemp" ale once. I think we added too many seeds. Had too much of that nutty flavor. Reminded me of Raison Bran with walnuts. Odd thing is, the beer retained a good head, which I find ironic for adding an oily substance to beer.

We were expecting a "side effect", but got none.

i hear alot about hemp beer but never tried it...i can't see hemp giving you any affect in the MJ field even as a plant there no buzz. the only things maybe is flavour...

not to long ago i made a recipe for a tru MJ beer, haven't tried it yet (waiting for tiss the season). but hear it is..let me no if i need to tweek it out, i'm not a expert on making beer from scratch but i think this will produce a genuine MJ beer, not just a flavoured beer.

setp#1 - Prepairing the dry mj Hop to liquid mj hop using Grain Neutral Spirits (GNS)(*neutral odor*) best for adourless..or wine (grape) Alcohal

-get a bowl that will fit 750ml of liquid
while stiring. cover the bottom of bowl with a thin
cloth/somthing that drains easy but hold bad leaf, let
cloth overhang the boil
-put 28grams of crushed leaf/bud into bowl and pour
750 ml of Grain Neutral Spirits (GNS)(*neutral odor*)
until all covered and wet. (the less u use of the alcohal
the reduce amount of alcohal at end)
***Based on 750ml of Grain Neutral Spirits, added to
a batch 23 Litres of beer the alcohaol content
will jump 3%.so please account that in the equation
in the makings of MJ Beer/tea combo
-while stirring/mixting count to 60 second give or take a
little (one mississippi etc) after counting take cloth
in hand with rubber/gloves
or what ever to not stain skin, and sqeeze the remaining
of the alcohal out of leaf/shack. into the bowl boil. discard
leaf/shank. If liquid still have particles in it, strain again threw
cloth until particle free.

Step#2- Steep 10-15(crushed) litre bucket of trim/shack into 150
degree(F) pot for 3 hours (don't add during boil)
- rinse - 45 min. in "warm" water do this twice 45min each.
- bring temp down to 65-75F
- Transfer to primary fermenter (bucket)
- Top up primary with water until 23 litre been achieved
- Add 1kg - 2 kg of sugar and stir vicerously.
- Pitch yeast
- let stand for approx. 10 days or gravity reaches 1.012-1.018
(based on a Pale Ale)
- Rack again to primary bucket to get rid of sediment at bottem
- Add Step #1-750ml oil Extraction/alcohal and stir slowly
to not cause 0xidizing the beer/tea and add primary sugar
for carbonizing.
eg. approx 170grams (3/4 cup) and 200grams(1cup) for high
carbination
- fill bottle and cap wait approx. 2 weeks until carb.

Just remember using nature grain alcohal for Mj dry hoping, this will add 3% alcohal to your oringinal batch since it starts out as 95% (190 proof), if using Grain Neutral Spirits u will not get the smell of the product, u will still get natural sent like marijuana tea/alcohal smell.

i hope i can perfect this over a few batches here and there..
