Dominion Spring Brew 2005

Specialty Lager, 70 IBU 8.5% ABV 12oz bottle, dated 2/10/05

"Our 2005 Spring Brew Lager is a Noble Imperial Pilsner that is ferociously hopped. Old Dominion Brewers recreate last year's critically acclaimed Spring Brew, but with the twist that we missed last year, the dry hopping. Hops take center stage with forty pounds of noble Saaz, Tettnang, and Splat hops going into each twenty-five barrel batch. We employ first wort hopping and post fermentation dry hopping to create this amazing beer."

Well, as they said in their blurb, it's basically the same recipe as last spring, but the hops are a bit more in your face now. Nice clear golden color, thinish white head, nicely carbonated. I'm not that advanced at picking out flavors like some of you, but I really enjoyed this brew last year and couldn't wait to get it this year. I picked up a case at the brewery on Friday.

If you like Pilsners and IPA's, I think you'll enjoy this one.

Makes me thirsty! I'll check this one out soon. Old Dominion shows up at the 45th position in the top 240 breweries on the other thread. Old Dominion makes some very good beers but does not always get the attention they deserve.

I'll see if I can fit a few Dominion brews into my porter marathon and give a few reviews.... hmmm.... where did I get those again?.... OH YEAH..... :D

Quite possibly tonight! There's a few more that are on their way, but I think I'm ready to do this. Yikes - the beer fridge is listing to starboard with all the beer packed in the top shelf. :D

Per steveh's suggestion, I'm going to have two beers at once tonight: an SN Porter and Stout. This will sort of set my palate and help me to pick out flavors between the two, and then I think I'll be ready to begin this arduous task that I wouldn't wish upon any of you.... because that would mean there'd be 44 beers missing from my fridge! :D

I am anxious to see your reaction. But I don't envy you. Porter not being a favorite style of mine. But I might drink a Black beer or Schwarzbier tonight in your honor.
