After my last batch of beer, I have the black burnt scoring of brew in the bottom of my stainless steel brewpot. Can you guys recommend a good way of getting this off? Should I just buy a metallic scouring pad?
Thanks in advance...

NO! That'll just encourage more.
Get some PBW from 5 Star. It is available from most Home Brew Stores. Just add some warm water to cover by about 2 " and about a tablespoon of PBW. Let it soak overnight.
It'll come off with minimal elbow grease and a soft sponge.

and if that doesn't take it off, go get a container of Bar Keeper's Friend. use a non metallic scrubbie (I use the green ScotchBrite one). however, with this method, you'll need to repassivate the stainless steel, which is easiest done by letting it sit empty and dry for a week or two...

Repassivate the stainless steel? What does that mean?
Thanks again!!!
If you happen to use softener sheets in your laundry dryer, save the used ones and toss them into the pot with a couple of inches of warm water over a night or two and it'll do the trick. I'm very lazy and hate to scrub and haven't had to yet.

Will unused laundry sheets work as well?
I am going to give this a try.....

I've had the same problem. Would a better brewpot (with an aluminum bottom) help?

Thanks again!!! Passivate (v): To treat or coat (a metal) in order to reduce the chemical reactivity of its surface.

Completely off topic, but rubbing dryer sheets on exposed body parts will keep away the mosquitoes.
Oh, PBW works for me.

I will have to try that. Here in south Louisiana, we have quite a few mosquitoes and most insect repelent makes me itch.

I have had great success using PBW and Bar Keeper's for cleaning the kettle.

PBW is the best. I've been thinking about buying this in the big boxes instead of the little 1 lb container. Anybody know if it's worth the extra price?
