Has anyone here tried using dried malt extract instead of corn sugar to carbonate their bottles?
I see that I'll have some DME left over and I heard it can be used. Has anyone tried this?
I'd hate to go out and buy corn sugar when I could just use my leftovers. Any thoughts on this? Will it change the taste? Make it less carbonated?

I was, for about 10 months, on a "prime with DME" kick. It took FOREVER for the bottles to carbonate---one time it took almost 7 weeks. I went back to corn sugar and have never looked back. Corn Sugar is almost 100% fermentable and it will carbonate your bottles in 1/2 the time it takes DME to carbonate them. DME will work, mind you, if you have the patience. DME will NOT add a maltier taste to your brew (when priming with it), if that's what your after.

some styles are better suired for priming with a malt extract though. the genelral rule of thumb thougn in priming with DME is 1 1/4 cup per 5 gallon batch. This is more than the 3/4 cup of corn sugar. I have had good results with both.
