Somebody on another board I am a member mentioned this Welsh Ale.
Anybody ever hear of Brain's S/A?

http://www.bottledbeer.co.uk/index.html?beerid=94

Can anybody give a taste review?

I have heard of it but never tasted it.
A friend of mine claims that it is know locally as Brains Skull Attack.

Do you not trust the review on the site?;) Seriously, I regularly reference that site, and the main reviewers are pretty good.

As for the beer, I've never seen it on sale here. I'm going across to Wales for a scooter rally in a couple of months, so I hope to sample it then.

To a degree. I much rather have the opinions of this site's members, though.

Thanx, newportstorm for the links. By reading those, I get a good idea of what it would taste like.

I am hoping Richard English will chime in.

Brains S/A is listed in my Great Beer Guide by Michael Jackson. Here's basically what he has to say about it:

"S/A is enjoyed as an easy-drinking beer that nonetheless has plenty of satisfying flavors. Like many Welsh beers, it is accent toward maltiness. SA has a spicy aroma; a light, faintly almondy, crystal-malt character, soft on the tongue; and finishes with a lite, dry, appetite-tickling fruitiness and hoppiness."

Says there's argument as to what SA stands for, too...

It's been quite a while since I've had one. I can't recall any specifics. I do remember it being a decent sort of ale, nothing spectacular though.

I've had it and also been to the brewery. I spent a day or so in Cardiff. I recall bringing back that beer in a plastic 2 liter bottle similiar to cokes. I'm betting that I still have the label. I like Brains and Felinfoel (sp). I've got some stories from that part of the trip that I probably should not tell. I can say I enjoyed the Welsh capitol very much. It was October 1989. I remember liking the beer, otherwise I would not have brought some home, but no specifics.

I also probably have some picts of the brewery. I'll have to dig them out.

I like the OBBD site. I post on thier forum as well. It has only recently been restored. Gives a good perspective.
