For my first batch of beer I primed it, bottled it, and set it to condition in my garage, which was kept at about 40 degrees. (Maybe even colder with recent temperatures.) The result, of course, is a nice flat beer. Is there any way I can rectify this situation, or is my batch done for? Thanks for the help.

Get your beer inside in a nice warm closet or such, temperature preferably at @ 70*. Your at way too cold a temperature for the yeast to work on your priming sugar. Give it two or three weeks and you should be fine.

Agreed...get it warmed up; the yeast is just sleeping. :)

I "brewed" a Baron's kit, the Canadian Hi-Test. One of those add water and pitch yeast kits. I have since brewed a recipie for a High Sierra Pale Ale that is fermenting and will keep warm through bottle conditioning. Everybody has got to learn from their mistakes, I guess.

Don't sweat it. It'll turn out fine.
BTW, Welcome to the board. This is a great place to learn and share info. I learn something new here every time I log in (and that's far too often, or so says my wife :) ). The people are friendly and very knowledgable. We were all newbies once, too. There's nothing like the thrill of making your first batch of Home Brew!
