I know, I know - but I've been saving a bottle.
Bamberger Original, 25 oz. bottle, 6.0 ABV.
Deep gold color with a faint red hue to make it near amber. Thick, eggshell white head that slowly settles to a respectable cap.
Rich, sweet malt nose, toasty melanoidin back. Mild DMS with warmth.
Same rich, sweet maltiness in flavor, almost nutty. Mild spicy hops back, some mild alcohol bite/dryness in the finish.
Medium body with a mildly creamy, sticky mouth-feel.
A very fine example of a Helles Bock in the German tradition. Rich, clean malt flavors that let you know you're drinking beer, with a little alcohol kick as an extra bonus. Anyone who thinks lagers are mundane should seek out this one. I'm hoping there's another out for Springtime.

Every time I lay down the office calls and tells me they can hear me coughing from the other side of the property. No thanks. :(

Sounds delicious!
Have you tried the Great Lakes Christmas beer this year?
7.5%; made with cinnamin, ginger, and honey.
I can't give much of a review as I am sitting here looking at a long-since-emptied bottle.
I remember it being a very nice, malty ale...quite smooth with a very subtle spiciness; very tasty.
I think I'll see if my paint store has any more...I think I'll go today!

I did. The Firkin had it on tap! Quite good, very subtle in the spiciness.

I bought a sixer of this early last month. I thought it had too much ginger. It seemed to kinda drown out the honey and cinnamon, I hardly noticed the two at all. It was OK, just not that great. I'm glad you guys enjoyed it though.

I wonder if it was smoother on draft?

...and waitaminnit - just when did you retire? I know you can't be on vacation -- nobody would take vacation in February and stay in Wisconsin!! ;)

Did someone mention retirement?
I'm sort of looking forward to bocks too. For two reasons, Because they are yummy and because it is a sign of Spring! I'm done with the snow.

That's what my wife keeps saying... "OK, God, we've had our snow, You've proved Your point, now let's have some springtime, okay?" :)

We still have it on the ground and that is unusual. And having just returned from a beer tour of the North East where there was tons of it, I'm ready for some green!
