just got this email from the Magnolia about the strong beers they will be putting on in February. 21st Amendment is also featuring a lineup. This, combined with the barleywine fest at Toronado basically makes me wish I could take the entire month of February off and devote it to beer tasting, as I have no idea how I will be able to get to all these fun events. Some of the vintage openings and cask conditioned strong ales sound cool too. Just have to figure out how to persuade the girlfriend that I will need to be at either the Magnolia, 21st Amendment or Toronado at least once a week!
Here's the info:
3RD ANNUAL STRONG BEER MONTH APPROACHING FAST
Breweries are deeply connected to their culture's seasons, holidays and special events. There are summertime harvest beers, holiday spiced beers - beers to commemorate all manor of occasions. During the coldest, darkest, wettest days of winter brewers are called upon to lift the spirits with big, warming beers for the season.
Magnolia and the 21st Amendment Brewery and Restaurant have teamed up once again to celebrate this rich brewing tradition. Our cellars are full of wintertime ales designed to provide comfort and warmth while elighting the palate. Some were begun as early as August or September in anticipation of their imminent February 1st tapping. These special offerings are a thanks to our loyal customers and a respectful tribute to the role such commemorative beers have always held in their ommunities. They're also an amazing opportunity for us, as brewers, to explore the most creative facets of our craft.
Both breweries have pulled out all the stops this year to make this Strong Beer Month the best yet. Five strong ales will flow from the Magnolia taps and four more from the faucets of the 21st Amendment, a record for both breweries. Try all nine, anytime in February (while supplies last), and keep the special stemmed glass. T-shirts will be available for sale, too (including a rare reappearance of Old Thunderpussy shirts a little later in
the month).
Magnolia will be featuring:
Old Thunderpussy Barleywine
Promised Land Imperial IPA
Tweezer Tripel
McLean's Wee Heavy
Smokestack Lightning Imperial Stout
The 21st Amendment is serving:
Lower de Boom Barleywine
Double Trouble Double IPA
Golden Doom Belgian Strong Ale
Sully's Original Malt Liquor
In addition, both breweries will dig into their beer libraries and serve some vintage strong ales. Magnolia will kick off the month with two vintage versions of Old Thunderpussy Barleywine in addition to the new edition. A tasting flight of all three will be available for a limited time. Beginning Friday, February 4th, we will tap a firkin of ask-conditioned strong ale each Friday of the month. And then, late in the month, we hope to have a couple of very special offerings of bourbon barrel aged strong ales available.
Throughout the first week of February, Magnolia Pub & Brewery's chef, Francisco Peot, will tailor his daily specials to be paired with our strong ales. Each day we will feature a different beer and food pairing with a special combined price.
February is as big a time as it gets at Magnolia and the 21st Amendment! We put a lot of love into the shortest month of the year and we hope to see all of you very soon.
As always, thanks for reading and please stay in touch!
Cheers,
Dave McLean
