I love Texas and I am one 1/2 Texan-so when I go back to visit my family in the Dallas area I am amazed that there are so few Breweries there.

Gone

Hoffbrau Steaks Addison
Humperdink's Big Horn Addison
Rock Bottom Addison
Coppertank Brewing Dallas
Hoffbrau Steaks Dallas
Hubcap Brewing Company (Later Schooner's) Dallas
Routh Street Brewing Dallas
Reinheitsgebot Brewing Plano Pioneer!

I mourned Routh Street-my god they could make some beer-I mourn the Hemp beer from Coppertank.

I have been to Humperdinks in Dallas and Two Rows also in Dallas-not ones I look forward to visiting-

Perhaps it is the Dallas yuppies?

My favorite breweries in Texas

Lovejoys Austin
Saint Arnold's Brewing Houston
Great Grains Dallas

I thought the Waterloo was shut down? That is the one that is in the old paint store correct?

To bad you missed the Bitter End. If you ever get up there you have to try the Prescotts Wee Heavy for certain.

Alas, Waterloo is gone....replaced with some frufie place....I refuse to go in there - don't know if it's good or not. RIP Waterloo Brewing

Live Oak, in Austin(I think), makes really good beer.

Lovejoy's is super cool... http://www.lovejoystaproom.com/index.htm

Not only is Waterloo still closed...it's gone forever...it's not going to re-open...

Waterloo could no longer afford the rent on their space and went out of business

I hope to soon change the micro brewing landscape in Dallas. Just remember, a hundred years from now when they are talking about Blue Line Brewing Co.'s beginnings, you were here to see it happen.

Besides Austin gems Lovejoy's and Bitter End already mentioned...

Don't miss the awesome Draught House (formerly the Draught HORSE, 4112 Medical Pkwy) with the same sort of 7bbl brewhouse as Lovejoy's serving 3-6 beers of their own, one or two cask-conditioned, with a slew of other fine taps.

The Ginger Man, (4th/Lavaca) is a virtual temple of fine draft beer, with some 80 taps and a cask ale on at all times. Lots of Belgians, local, regional brews a beer garden out back and an outstanding jukebox.

Copper Tank Austin (5th & Trinity) fell off my regular pub list when their beers became bland and predictable. But the brewery has an ambitious new brewmaster in the last year or so, and is bringing their beers back to style without changing the names. Some are better than they have been in the past.
If you don't like college kids, skip "$1 Pint Night" on Wednesday.

There are many places to get fine beer n Austin, even if some great breweries (like Celis) and brewpubs (like Waterloo, DAMN!) have been closed.

The Draught House is my favorite pub in all of Austin-dom. Actually was formerly the Draught Horse which was formerly the Draught House, or so I am told. So it's back to its original name.

Also, the Dog and Duck is sometimes nice for a change or on St Patrick's Day.

I do agree with Bman. Routh St. was a fine brewpub. Made a fine beer and had a killer Ruben sandwitch. Nice antlers too..........
I hear tell Two-Rows is building a new brewpub in Addison...
I do have to dissagree about Humperdinks. I tend to like their hefe, ipa and the porter. Can catch a good seasonal in tere at times.... My favorite in the Dallas/Ft Worth area is Bigbuck Brewery.. Cool bar upstairs and they proudly display all of the brewers notes on a big chalkboard for all to see. Nice to see O.G. and IBU's mentioned..
Austin is still the place to go for good quality beer in Texas. Between Bitter End and Lovejoys, it dont get much better....
Bluestar Brewing Co. in San Antonio is good too....... Someone needs to move into the Abilene area and open some type of brewpub. I dont care who or what kind. Im just tired of having to drive 150 miles to sit and drink a good beer...

I am with ya on Big Buck-I have hit the one in Grand Rapids and Auburn Hills,MI-I make the trip to Auburn Hills once in a while-(I live in Ann Arbor) it is worth the dive-if you love a good Reuben-check out their Venison Reuben. Next time I get to the DFW area I will check out the local Big Buck-I went to Bluestar once but they were closed (Sunday)

There are Flying Saucers now in Houston, San Antonio, and Addison.

The Gingerman is also a great place to go for good beer, as mrbaze mentioned. They are in Austin, but also in Houston.

And Chester's Hamburgers (in San Antonio, don't know if they are located anywhere else) has a decent selection of bottled brews, though it's not as good as some others...

I like the Flying Saucer Chain-been to ones in Ft.Worth, Dallas, and Charlotte,NC.
Gingerman seems to be a wee bit heavy on $$$ side
