After brewing twenty or more batches of all grain, I decided to give extract brewing another try. I've gotta say that it was great fun, and a lot less time consuming. If this brew turns out half decent I might brew all extract for my next few batches. It's seems like an easier way to make your own recipes for experimentation, too.

BTW, I came up with a new way(new to me anyway) to aerate wort in the carboy. If you use an auto-siphoner, put the long rubbery tube in the carboy and use the pump side as a air pump. I stood there and pumped air through it for a good 10-15 minutes. Hopefully it worked pretty well - high og beer 1.074.

when you say extract brewing - do you mean completely extract brewing or does it involve partial grain too?

It had some crystal, peated malt, chocolate. But small enough quantity that I could just use a grain bag - maybe 1.5 lb total.

I think that partial and possibly all grain have their place, but I think there are many styles that probably taste just as good when done in the simpler extract kit.
