I want to hit the first day, Sat. the 12th.

Who's in?

Is lucky Baldwins right off the freeway down by the Ontario Airport? For some reason I remember that name and recall seeing it after getting off of I-15 and heading towards Rancho Cucamonga.

No, it's in oldtown Pasadena, 2-3 miles from the Rose Bowl I guess.

When you coming back out West for a visit, Ed?

Yeah, half a block south of Colorado Blvd. on Raymond Ave. I seem to recall that Lucky Baldwin was a real person around these parts. Baldwin Hills, Baldwin Park, maybe some other place with his name?? I will try my dangdest to make it on the 12th. Hopjack? Fid? I know it'll be fun.

I would like to say this summer but all my plans revolve around my wifes work schedule. My son is supposed to visit his grandmother in Apple Valley in July so I will see what I can work in around that.

When are you coming out to the heartland? No, not Stater Bros....:D

July would be good, IPA Fest is in July.

I want to make it, but I'm not sure if I can yet. I might be on call that weekend, which means no beer. I should know by Friday.

I just found out I'm going to a conference at the convention center on the 12th which is perfect. It starts at 8 a.m. and I can escape at any time. I'm gonna try to convince some of my colleagues to go. I'll check to see if anyone specifies a time.

eeeewwww, i hate the high desert! my mom lives in victorville.
if your going to be out in apple valley, there is only one place that has a small selection of beer, not huge but you should be able to just squeak by. the Overland Meat market on highway 18

I've heard THAT one before. If you can Hopjack, I will bring the goodies. 2:30 sounds great to me. I had figured out that I would be there around 2 regardless. Sweet.

I've been in a little thing called Grad School. It has sucked most of my life away. I check in every now and then.

What's this buckets thing about?

hopjack13
01-21-2005, 11:26 PM
well at najas you can get a regular pint glass.......and then there's the buckets! L.H.H.H. Brown warned me about messing with them buckets once, they do catch up to you quite fast!

good to have you back man, hope to see you at LB's
did you know they opened a bevmo in rancho?

Where in Rancho? I've never seen one.

If it's true, I'm there.

Here (http://www.bevmo.com/storeinfo.asp?area=storeloc&store=52)
off route 66 / foothill & the 15 over by the new mall, i heard they have a yard house over there now too....haven't been though, if you get a chance check it out . then you can report back to us.....although i think we're the only two on this board this far east. anyways Here's (http://www.yardhouse.com/location.asp?id=13) the 411 on the yard house.

MiScusi
02-04-2005, 02:39 PM
Hopjack- the Yardhouse is pretty good. But if you go late its PACKED, i mean PACKED and its a very young crowd and the bar is like 4 deep. I'm always out over that way at the Dave and Busters happy hour. Yardhouse has a good happy hour from I think 4-7..... $2.75 pints and half on appetizers (i dont know if some of you who are older worry about that stuff as much as us youngsters)- and at this time its never crowded.

I cant wait till they put in the BJ's over by Victoria Gardens... right now I have to go to West Covina for that.

that I do not know :( Doesn't indicate that on their website. I'm guessing just a restaurant/pub because there are other breweries close by in West Cov, and Brea.

I don't know what day, I definitely plan on going one of the days, not sure which one though. I need to get a couple buddies to go. The Lucky Baldwin said tastes are $3. That sounds like a little much for a "taste".... the other festivals I've seen have tasting for like $1 to 1.50 each. I've never been to one of these things before so I will be going regardless. I'll probably be the youngest one there (or at least youngest looking, I still get carded everywhere I go and i'm 23 :D )

The one I'm really looking forward to is the one in Carlsbad on March 19th so my friend in SD can meet me there.

hopjack13
02-09-2005, 12:21 AM
well you get a little more then just a taste, a 12 oz glass i think, they're just smaller then the regular 16oz pint glasses. i've been to the ipa fest and a belgian and a x-mas...actually, you can buy the glass and get refills for 3 bucks , thats the way i did it the last few times. other beer fest give you a little 4 oz plastic cup or something...blahh . at lucky baldwins you get a glass!:D
evryone should be backing me up on this?? murphy?? l.h.h.h........fid???
oh and it's this saturday we're all going , ......right fellas?

Last year I didn't buy a glass at the Belgian festival, but they might have been selling some. The tastes are $3, and they are about 4 to 6 oz in the mini Chimay glasses. Given that these are all Belgians, on tap, and you are unlikely to find most of them on tap very often in this part of the world, I find the $3 quite reasonable.

Plus, they are Belgians for poop sake. Do you really want to pound them one after another?

By the way, how many of you are bringing wives/significant others?

My wife certainly likes the beer and is interested in going again, but last time she was the only lady. Will any of the rest of you be bringing your other halves? It will likely influence her decision.

well my wife usually goes with me to these things. but she may have other plans, i'll try and change her mind.
i bought a glass at one of the belgain fests and it was a de konick (sp?) about 330ml i think. i thought it was resonable as well...and yeah! plus they're belgian brews!

looks lke there'll be a grip of BA's there too, hey murphy which table you gunna drink at ? :D

HopJack- got ya, I didn't know they were 12 oz "tastes"... since I saw that the tastes that were $1 at the Carlsbad event were 4oz. $3 is pretty great then.

It's just that I heard it so much as a young musician trying to break the ranks of the "old guard", I began to use it myself. Even my wife (who's WAAAAAAY younger than I am) uses it! :)

Question about Lucky Baldwins- does the festival run all day or only at certain hours- I'm guessing the former, but just need confirmation.

Also, I don't think i'm familiar with any Belgian beers except Whittikerke, so I'm gonna need you guys to list a few that you think are "musts" to hit first.

hopjack13
02-09-2005, 04:23 PM
the fest goes from opening till closing all week, the 12th is just the first day of the fest.
if you're not already a lover of belgian beers then they may be hard for you to understand, but if your going to start down the path of belgain beers there's no better place to start then @ lucky baldwins!

02-09-2005, 11:04 PM

I'll be there, but later than the 2:30 arrival I hoped for. More like 4:30 probably. Gotta work.

You'll still be there, right Fid? My wife will be staying home with the kids this time, I'm sorry to say.

See ya's.

And yes, Murphy, I will still be there at 2:30. By the time you get there I should be good and happy. Enjoy the concert tonight. I still don't really know who Gavin DeGraw is, but I'm sure you'll have a good time.
