Can anyone tell me what the distinctive aroma is derived from in this beer?

DFH Indian Brown has been one of my favorites for a few years, and I think it gets lost in the love-fest for all of the over-the-top beers they make. It's brewed with Goldings and Liberty hops, "aromatic" barley, and carmelized brown sugar. The aroma I get, when fresh, is definitely the hops with some roastiness. Great beer.
