My wife, son and I brought in the New Year by playing the card game Shanghai with some frends. Along with that I enjoyed some Bell's Amber Ale.

I had some Stone Smoked Porter and Blue Points Hoptical Illusion at my brothers house party and won $30 in buck dice.

It was the first New Year's Eve I had to spend away from mi esposa linda, but it was worth it - I played a wedding/New Year's party on the 38th floor of a building in Denver. Great view, nice people, nobody out of control, and a good paying gig to boot. Only saw a few questionable drivers (and a few pedestrians!) on the way home. Have I said this yet? (I have? Oh well - I'll say it again.) I'm so glad and so blessed to be back in CO where I can actually make a living doing what I used to do 20 years ago for free! Hooray! Happy New Year everyone! :)

It is my anniversary so we do the low key thing and stay home. We watched a movie and that was about it. Not really in to going out anymore as it is amateur night at the pubs, just like Saint Patricks day.

Has dinner with a few friends then came home and watched "The Last Waltz" on Turner Classic Movies. Not terribly exciting, but I'm okay with it.

Well, most recently Moscow. :D Next up, back to Georgia (the country, not the state)--but that's in a couple of months.

Meantime, I'm prepping for a "PCS" move (military), which'll actually bring me closer to home, which is a good thing. Not to mention the good things it'll do for my career.

It's good to be back. Thanks for the welcome! Happy new year to you, too, Fret!

At home this year with the missus. It was certainly a change. Very relaxing.
Waved faretheewell to the arse end of a bottle of Bombay gin and had some of my homebrewed Maple wheat beers.

Dinner at home - NY sirloin steaks and pan seared scallops with Old Ras Impy Stout - great meal. Movie - 'Out of Time' with Denzel (eh!). Ended just in time to catch the last 10 minutes of the New Year with those cheezy TV specials (Tom Green was funny, though).

Gotta say the "Get Well Dick Clark" wishes got tired after a while. Did anyone see John Travolta's wish to Dick. Can you say 'stoooooned'? :D

Cheers to another year of great beer!

Every year for the past six or seven years, my wife and I have hosted a Creole New Year's Eve bash at our house. Friends and family are invited to drop by anytime after 7, sit around and play music (live) and eat finger foods. Last night there were several guitar players present, two fiddle players, and a harp (harmonica) player. We drink, eat and play until midnight. Then at midnight it is out on the lawn, with Beausoleil's version of Auld Lang Syne blasting on the stereo, and we greet the New Year by being loud and raucous, complete with the cranking of an old hank crank siren and a champagne toast.

Then everyone goes back in the house and sits down to a late dinner of cajun and creole dishes.

Had all kinds of beer for all kinds of tastes. The clear winner though, was Chezchvar. Went through a case and a half of it, and I only had four. Maybe some of these folks are getting educated to real beer. There were also several Shiner Winter Ales missing from the beer fridge, so someone must have liked that as well. The Tecate(yeech) went untouched, but there were several Miller Lites(even yeech-ier) gone. Everyone had a designated driver, which was pretty cool! I didn't have to take away any keys.

My wife and I went to bed at 10:30 (to sleep  )

One of the kids woke us up after 1:00AM. First time I've missed the new year since high school...... the kids are killing me!!!

My wife and I went to bed shortly after the twins around 8:30pm. We have played host to my mother, my two sisters, my 8 yr old niece and 1 yr old nephew for a week. We were/are exhausted. They are on completely different schedules than we are. I woke up to the explosions at midnight and crashed 20 minutes later. I did enjoy a Anderson Valley Winter Solstice and a couple of homebrews before crashing though. I'm getting pretty darn boring in my old age.

O2 Mash - I can relate. Both my boys are bringing in their 2 yr molars. 2-3 wake ups a night. :(

I had a few pints of Live Oak Pilz and crashed about 8:30. I vaguely remember hearing firecrackers as I stirred when Wifey came to bed at some unknown hour, but my light didn't even reach full wattage before it was out again.

skahtboi...that sounds like an awesome party! Nothing like great food and a live jam session.

We went to my cousins house for dinner and a small get-together; we did have some mighty fine beers, though:

Southampton Abbot 12
Rogue Santa's Special Reserve
Avery The Reverend
Great Divide Old Ruffian Barley wine
Dogwood Brewing Co. Youngblood's Imperial Porter
Unibroue Maudite
Unibroue La Fin du Monde

May have been others, but that's all I can remember...

oh yeah:

My wife and I are in the same boat. What used to be a 3am morning is now a 9pm evening.

We have 2 boys (11 & 2) and the 2 year old has his molars coming in as well. Last week was nothing but the poor kid being very clingy and whiney. Luckily for me though he is only up about once every other night this week.

My wife and I took a road trip to Indianapolis (our first New Year's Eve out of the house in 5+ years), and spent the latter half of the night at Chalkie's - a smoke-free craft beer bar/restaurant/pool hall. A friend had told me about the place, and it was great. We ate pan-seared Tuna, fresh crab cakes, and much more, all delicious. For the beer (all draft), we had Mad Anthony Snowplow, Redhook Winterhook and ESB, Anchor Liberty, and finished up with several pints of Wittekerke. They had 5 or 6 Belgians on tap (as well as 10-12 craft brews), and BMC was only available in bottles. Cool.

All in all, a very enjoyable evening.

One of my best buds was home on leave from his Navy station in Hawaii. We got some Chinese takeout and camped out in my home theatre, watched the entire Star Wars trilogy (the original three films, not the second crappy Prequel films), and a few other titles.

Enjoyed an assortment of brews, including:

Sierra Nevada Celebration
Snow Goose
Old Dominion Oak Barrel Stout
Troegenator
Pilsener Urquell

Crashed about 5 am and slept the rest of the day.

Small group of my Brother, his wife, a friend and her husband, and my wife, ordered pizza, played Poker, and Disney Scene-it game, all with some interesting brews.

But before we enjoyed the brews my brother had a bottle of Geyser Peak Cabernet Franc, a very good wine, but hey that is a different discussion group.

We also cleansed the palate before enjoying the brews.
Horn Dog Barleywine
Kelpie Seaweed Ale
Unibroue la fin du monde
Two brothers NorthPoint Imperial Stout

Was at my beach place with my wife, son, nephew and mother and father in laws. We had early dinner reservations then had some friends over. I had one Guinness Extra Stout with dinner and sipped 15 year old Glen Livet for the remainder of the evening until the ball dropped. Then it was French champagne. We were in bed by 1:00. All very low key.

Just down the street at a friends house. took the kid (4months) and had a good time even though she didn't want to sleep like she normally does on a regular night.

Had some Wild Goose Amber and IPA, a SN Celebration and Thirsty Dog Porter over the course of the night. Kind of a hodge-podge but it was all while about 8 of use played Texas Hold'em. I was 4th. dangit!

This was the first time since 1989 that my wife and her brother hadn't hosted a New Year's Party. Kind of sad actually, even though the reason is joyous.

I had one Anchor Christmas and barely stayed awake for the bells.

Played DJ at my brother in law's wedding...it was a good time, he's home temporarily from the military, as some of you know from a different thread. I had brewed some beer for the occaision (a steam beer), but the reception and dance location changed last minute to a place that wouldn't allow outside beverages, so my beer was relegated to my own fridge (upside) and I was stuck with nothing but Miller Lite for the dance (downside).

Tweek and his wife came over and hung out. We bbq'd in the rain and drank a few to several good beers. A good night, all in all. Nice and mellow and was in bed around 1:00.

Started off at a friend's party where we rang in the new year. Then left around 1:30 to go to a friend of a friend's, which turned out to be some fancy black tie affair hosted by Russian mobsters. The food was great but we felt distinctly uncomfortable as we were dressed in jeans and baseball hats, so we went from there to a dive bar in another neighborhood and drank our faces off (Rogue Dead Guy for me). I allegedly got home around 4:30 am, but remember little of it. There are several amusing voicemails on my cell phone, though.

One of those nights.

I had a very boozy (and unlike me, fancy) night, starting with a multi course dinner with my gal, with Duvel, red wine, and a after dinner Highland Park & cigar. Midnight at a casino with champagne, cab back home to Chimay Blue and a long sleep.

My wallet took a major hit, but it was a blast! With all the food we ate, I never got too drunk, and was only slightly slow the next morn.

We went to a party at a friend's house. There were about 50 people. They even had a live band. He asked me to bring some home brew, so I brought a corny of APA. They also had a pony keg of Snoqualmie Falls Copperhead (http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/rate_results/859/3359/). I feel pretty proud -- by 12:30 am, the corny was empty but the pony was still a little less than half full. No, I didn't drink it all by myself.... :)

Jinja and I spent the night with our friend at the Mission Ale House in San Jose, CA. They have a decent selection of taps, with Fat Tire and 1554 being the drinks of the night. Not including the obligatory champagne toast at midnight of course.

We responsibly took a cab back to our friend's house, and promptly passed out on his chaise lounges.

Sorry -- it were the Dogfish Head. And yeah - I totally forgot that we split a bottle of the Sam Chocolate Bock too - it was actually pretty good. Similar to Young's Dbl Choco in many ways.

We went to Harvest Moon, my local brewpub, for a great dinner and a couple of beers afterwards. We took it nice and slow and watched the young'uns get ripped on colorful "martinis".

It was the Pale for me, and the Mild for my wife. We were home and in bed by 1:00. It was fun, though.

I"m glad someone else thought the SA Chocolate Bock was drinkable. I was rather suprised that I did like it. I'm looking for a bottle to give one of my employees who likes chocolate but can't see it with beer.
