To avoid that threads go off on tangents and to allow people the rant and whatnot at a quicker speed, I have found a chat room on mIRC of anyone is interested.
Of course, you need to have mIrc on your computer and then get on to the Efnet server. Once there I am in the channel #homebrew.
I hope I am not violating any forum rules by announcing this and I alos hope that maybe a few of you might join me. It's pretty neat.

You're always welcome to post other rooms and forums here - we're just not in competition with anyone! As a matter of fact, I'll bet there's a few of us who hop on to the one you're talking about, but just to be sure, give us more details on the one you found!

well I don't know what details really to give because I am new to the mIRC world. But I can try....
Her goes....(for those of you familiar with mIRC please lend me a helping hand)
1. I am on a server network called EFnet. When you open the mIRC program you can choose which server to connect with. There should be a drag down list and you just need to find EFnet and choose to connect.
2. Once on one of the 53 servers on the EFnet you then need to joint the #homebrew channel. Again, if you are familiar with mIRC you know what I mean. If not, then you have to look at the top of the screen and choose the menu bar "commands" and then "join channel" finally typing in "homebrew".
3. You should now be in the room.
I will be on another hour or so but I will be going back often so I hope to see you there sometime.....my nick is the same.
Bradford
If you need any more info let me know but also let me know specifically what you want to know. Thanks.

I made one long ago called #beer. it is on irc.sorcery.net. There are a few realbeer folk who show up regularly and I am almost always there.

Threads will go off tangent and there is not much we can do about it. I as a moderator I will not cut/prune threads unless they turn in to personal attacks or turn in to blatant post count ramping.
I belong to many other boards, as others on here do, and the problems are the same there as well. We do our best to keep it to a minimum but it is not always possible/easily done and it appears to be human nature.
Feel free to open an iRC chat room but as an alternative to PM's but I am not sure how well it would work. Not every one is always online and some of us will not install and irc channel on our machines for whatever reasons.
PM's are an option and available and if the word count is an issue take it to email.
However, in all my time on boards and threads being hijacked it does have an advantage. It keeps threads with good information going. It can be pain to sift through it all but if you know what you are looking for hit CTRL-F and search each page without having to read all the posts. While RB.com has a search feature it does not recognize less then 4 letters and even adding * as a wildcard does not work all the time.
No matter what though, keep the suggestions coming. The moderators and admins appreciate them and will do their best to keep RB.com the best site on the web about beer.

The channel that Tweek set up is great. I'm in there quite a bit now too, especially since I finally got my laptop working again.

There is also Instant Messenger. I chat routinely with some other RealBeer folks. If there are ever several of us who want to chat it is easy to start a chat room. This format has worked well for the online tastings that we have done. Once again my Screen name is: Our Man Chuck . Feel free to IM me anytime. If I am busy, I'll tell you.
