Looking to get a chest freezer or fridge to hold my keg setup.
the thing i need to know is, how big should i be looking for to hold a commercial quarter barrel, and at least two cornies?
any ideas? I know i can get a couple of cornies in nearly anything, but how bout that QB?
Thanks

Hi B n B,
I picked up a chest freezer at HomeDepot that is smallish thinking it wouldn't be big enough, but I could conceivably fit a QB and two or three Cornies. I have tried it with an empty QB and they would all fit. You should do a collar on it, though to fit the taps through... Look through the archives here to see examples.
The main question I have for you is how do you plan on lifting a full QB Keg up and into it? I kind of stuggle with my cornies...Maybe an upright would be better?
Cheers!

I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Goon2 - What size freezer did you get?

I don't remember the exact sq footage, but here are a few pics of the operation.

Here's one of the inside. It looks crowded, but without the bottle rack it is not too bad...

Is that a 10 cubic foot perhaps? They can usually be had for a little under $200; the 5 footers for around $120-130.
nice looking setup BTW!

I have a 9.0 cu ft chest freezer that can hold a full barrel (or 1/4) as well as 2 cornies or 5 gals. With that setup I can also keep my 5# Co2 tank inside.
Building a wood collar is a must to maximize to be able to use the compressor shelf!
I am quite happy with my 3 faucet setup -
Currently pouring Victory Golden Monkey, SA Lager, and Victory HopDevil!
btw - the model I have is a Fridgidaire (sp?), purchased at Best Buy

It is probably around 10, but I'm not there right now. Still at work. Grrrr.
On tap: Dubbel.
Soon to be on tap:
English Pale
Oatmeal Stout
Brown Ale
(I am just now getting caught up on Brewing!)
