What kind of bottles do you guys use? I’ve been using both the reusable bottles with the rubber seals and bottles from beer I’ve bought at the store. A friend just told me I should only use bottles that are deemed reuseable. Should I not use the store bought beer bottles? I haven’t had any problems yet with bursting or anything….
Your thoughts/opinions?

I use almost exclusivley bottles from beer that I bought at a store, the non-twist-off kind. Drank, cleaned, refilled w/ homebrew, drank, repeat. Never had a problem.

I too use bottles that are not necessarily "reusable", but have had no problems. Just make sure they're not twist offs.

A friend of mine says he's been successful recapping twist offs, but I wouldn't recommend it

I particularly like the Grolsch, swing top, bottles. The beer isn't all that great, but bottling time is a lot easier. Never have buy caps.
The Grape & Granary sells the rubber gaskets so when they wear out, I still can use em. But that isn't too often.

I, too, use both the flip-top bottles and bottles from beers that I bought at the store (no twist tops). I particularly have a fondness for the british beer bottles (like Fuller's, Young's,etc.). They're a bit larger and the glass is thick as hell. Those'll last forever, plus they hold a bit more beer than the regular 12 oz'ers.:)

I have a couple Newcastle Ale bottles that I use for every batch. I like them because they are clear and you can see the true color of your beer with them. I think they are an oddball size of about 18 oz.
A homebrewer gave me several cases of 22 oz. bomber bottles. (he gave the idea to use Grolsch) I usually fill a couple of these as my give-aways.

I use both the swing top and I use 25 oz. sparkling cider bottles. I perfer the 25 oz. due to the shorter bottling time.

I am lucky as one of my hockey buddies works for a plant that makes beer bottles for a number of breweries. I get off the line never been filled Pete's and AB bottles frequently.
