Hola -

I'm looking for anyone who may have a bartending friend or anyone who can get ahold of this year's Anchor Christmas tap handle. I know it's a long shot, but every year for the last 6, I've gotten my tap-handle-collecting-dad this handle. It started out when I was selling the stuff, but now that I'm a buyer, for some reason the folks at Anchor don't call on my chain and eBay turned up nothing.

If anyone has a lead, please let me know, price negotiable. This would be his 13th Anchor Christmas handle in succession! Plus, I'd still be the favorite daughter ;) -BeerGal

Hey sooz,

There's a store in New Hope, PA (at least there was about six months ago) that has breweriana. I just tried a quick web search and couldn't come up with a name, but that don't mean it's not there. The owner was pretty friendly and it seemed like if he didn't have what you were looking for, he'd try to get it for you. New Hope is less than 2 hours from you.

That's beat about ebay. I usually see anchor stuff up there, including tap handle/pint glass combos and such...

good luck!

Sooz....I dunno if this is too late, but there is a guy on ebay that I have gotten a TON of British beer tap handle signs from. They have all been British, mind you, but he may have a source from which he gets these things. Maybe you can e-mail him and ask.

His name on ebay is "driver8zzz".

Hope this helps you:)

Hi guys - thanks! I've been gone for a while, but I was able to get the handle in time for Christmas. A lady posted it and within two minutes of geting te notification from eBay, I had "Bought It Now" - so I'm still the favorite daughter!

Good Deal!! I have lots of tap handles. I'm going to start putting them on Ebay soon too. None are OSA.

You could always just buy one from Anchor for $12 or $14.

Quickest way from point A to point B... ;)

Always check with the source, first.

Well ain't that some sh*t!!?? I'm not so sure I want to keep collecting them if they're mass producing them now!! Used to be only the accounts who sold the stuff on tap got a handle...and now? That's kind of lame. I'm a little irked. Wait til Dad finds out...

So you only wanted them for their collectability value? Who knows, 50 years from now you might be one of only a few people with a complete (or extensive) collection. Why give up something you enjoy because other people like it as well? Reminds me of beer geeks that abandon a craft beer after it expands it's market share/distribution area and isn't as "exclusive". If ya like 'em, keep collecting them.

Cheers!

I was cleaning some junk out of the attic this past weekend and came across an Anchor Christmas 1994 bottle (empty, unfortunately). Not sure why I saved it. Anyway, it's on one of the shelves with the old trays now.

You have a point with the complete set - but yes, I only wanted it for collectibility value. What else do you do with a tap handle? Dad's got over 500 handles all mounted on wooden shelves, but about 200 of them are rare and collectible. That's kind of the point.

So NOW you have to start working BACKWARDS, and extend the set in the OTHER direction... see who's selling the 1991 and the 1990 (which you're probably already doing). Keep us posted!

What to do with a tap handle? What to do with a tap handle? Hmmmm....I've got it! Pour beer. Preferably some Anchor OSA.

No kegerator? Or desire for one? Keep collecting them, anyway. $12-14 is cheap compared to some of the tap handles I see other breweries selling them for ($30+). Hobbies and interests don't necessarily have to be profitable to be enjoyable, do they?

Cheers!

Well that's fine for the *one* handle (believe me, we have plenty of beer on tap), but I'm talking about hundreds...no way anyone could pull all 500 to use at the same time - within reason. So, in and among the enjoyable hobby of collecting handles, I would imagine, like other hobbies (comics and baseball cards come to mind) that one expects a certain sense of profitability to come out of at least SOME of the collectables.

We do too.

All I was saying was that it kind of ruins the moment for me, seeing as how now all I have to do is go to the web site and get the handle. That's not very exciting.

I've probably got 40 or 50 tap handles. Infact I just got one of of Ebay. It is a St. George Porter from Virginia. I'm going to start selling them off soon. Except for the Virginia and DC handles.

A friend of mine at work has several "Molson Dry" tap handles for sale. Any interest?

List them on Ebay. I just sold items from 2 Canadian Breweries. A plaque from the launch of Labatt Select and an early 1900s envelope and letterhead from the Reinhardt Salvador Brewery of Toronto. There are Canadian collectors out there. I also just sold two tap handles from New Hampshire breweries.

Thanks chazwicke. He is thinking of doing so, but is unsure of price.( Mind you he got them for free. They were sitting on top of a dumpster, and he spotted them). He wants me to ask you how much you sold the two tap handles for, if you don't mind.

Not too much. They were extra's that I got in some other deal. Tap handles are usually more sought after if they are from craft brewers. I have a decent collection of Virginia, DC and Maine brewery tap handles. some of which will sell soon. Usually a craft brew tap handle goes in the $15 - $20.00 range. I'd think the Molson items would go for less. My Pre Pro items sold well.

Thanks chaz, I'll let him know. By the way, what do you think an old "Vancouver Breweries" quart bottle may be worth? The "label" is actually in raised letters on the glass. Vancouver Breweries disappeared in 1954 after it was bought out by the old Carling Breweries. I have no real idea of the age of the bottle, except to know that quart bottles were discontinued in the 1940's. I know this because I worked for Carling in Vancouver in the 1970's.

There are plenty of bottles for sale on Ebay as well. I have a rather large collection of Virginia and DC pre pro bottles that are all embossed. As to the value of your bottle, I'm not really sure. depends on how common they were and who is collecting that brewery or region. I would search Ebay just to see what they are going for. I am a member of a bottle collectors society but I really am only interested in specific things. I am going to be weeding out many of my breweriana collections in the coming months. I am in purge mode. The stuff I just sold was actually just misc. extra stuff I came across in my basement. The good stuff I have will bring lots of $$. I have some pretty rare stuff. I have been collecting for 30 ++ years. As far as Ebay goes, there are some tricks that you can use when listing your item to get wider exposure. Be sure to put as many different key words as you can to describe the item. You never know how people will search. I also know that I was contacted by a couple Canadian collectors regarding old Items that I have sold. So there is an active group looking for Canadian brewery items.
