Belgian Style Ale, Goose Island Brewing, Chicago, IL. Bottled 07/22/04 8.0% ABV according to BeerAdvocate.

Another in Goose Island's new line of specialty brews. Based on a pub-brew that was created to honor the loyal G.I. 1800 North Clybourn (Goose's original brew-pub) customers who braved the gentrification of the neighborhood in the early '90s.

Pours a deep, sparkling gold with a firm, white head.

Fruity apple and fresh peach nose - maybe strawberry hints. Mellow, light toasted malts back. Hops emerge in nose with warming - noble, eastern-european character.

Crisp fruit flavor with light caramel and biscuit malt back. Fruit esters in the finish - crisp and bitter hop character develops with warmth.

Thin to medium body with a crisp and slightly syrupy mouth-feel.

A very interesting brew; complex, and full of character, yet light and refreshing. Alcohol doesn't seem assertive, nor do the hops, but G.I. says this beer will age well.

This sounds like a pretty interesting beer. I wish GI would expand their distribution a little wider.

It does sound interesting. Would you think it more reflects an English ale or a Belgian?

Your description rminded me of some nice cask ales I have tried. Except for the alcohol content. Fruity, mellow malts, crisp hops.

in honer of this threads title I am posting this from Dave Alexander of RFD and Brickskeller fame

BLOW-IT-UP!
Here's the official press release announcing the KaBooming of our good OLD convention center, which sits about 50 yards behind RFD's back room (8th St) door.

Former Convention Center DEMOLITION - Saturday, December 18th
Demolition of the former convention center (900 9th Street) will occur at 7:30 am on Saturday, December 18, 2004 and will be over in 12 seconds.

This implosion will be a much less climatic event than typical implosions you may have witnessed. Essentially the goal of this implosion is to drop the roof from its current elevated position down to grade. The South side of the structure just North of H Street will remain in place between 9th and 11th Streets during and after the implosion; to be conventionally demolished at a later date. The implosion sequence will begin in the middle of the structure and irradiate outward creating a controlled descent of the structure over a twelve second duration.

Street closures will be required to begin at 5:30 am on the 18th and will continue until dust cleanup has been completed at approximately 9:30 am that morning. All streets will be opened as soon as they have been cleared and are approved.

Go to http://www.dcconvention.com/community/alerts.asp to see a map detailing the Implosion Safety Perimeter Plan as well as the demolition and interim improvement schedule for the old convention center site over the next several months. If you have questions, please call the 24-hour WCCA Community Hotline at (202) 249-3200.

We appreciate your patience as we move forward with demolition of the old convention center and interim development of the site.

We HAVE to do something stupid in commemoration of that old dump and her unfortunately short life time. Maybe a whole bunch of our taps at reduced prices all weekend long? Whatcha think? I'll make up a list of cheep beers and shoot out a quick mailer later this week.

it was a good beer on tap, that's cool they are bottling it. it makes sense to take some of their hits from the brewpub and put it out there in bottles, though i wonder if it costs them a lot or is difficult to organize. it looks like they are trying to focus these beers on the beer geeks who would often pass on a GI 6-pack (like i would) for something else (unless they were on sale for $6 or less-- hard to beat the IPA for that).
