I loaded a recipe into Pro Mash. The recipe I loaded into Pro Mash had an O.G. of 1.081. When I entered all the grain, Pro Mash had the recipe calculated at 1.090 O.G. at 75% efficiency. My question is....... Am I supposed to reduce the efficiency percentage to get Pro Mash to match the paper recipe? I am a bit confused on where to go from there. What do I compare my efficiency to? Pro Mash or the paper recipe. I was just going to replicate last Saturdays brew session. My O.G. came in at 1.078. Please advise. I am just using the free version to check it out before I purchase. I'm sure I will purchase real soon. Just need some advise.

You should adjust ProMash to mash your normal efficiency then adjust the ingredients, proportionally, to mash the gravity.

This would be my first time ever plugging a recipe into Pro Mash. I don't know my normal efficiency. According to Pro Mash I am at 68% efficiency with Pro Mash standards of 1.090 @ 78% efficiency (with this recipe I speak of). Still a bit confused.

I get based of your brewing last week that you're getting a 65% efficiency:
All units are gravity units
90 gu / .75 = 120 gu = 100% efficiency
78 gu / 120 gu = 65% efficiency (on last weeks brew)
So, if the above is correct then set ProMash to a 65% efficiency and increase the ingredients, proportionally, until the projected OG matches what the recipe calls for.

Thank you for you patience. Makes a bit more sense now. Especially the math. Would you recomend adding to my ingredients to match Promash or the paper recipe? Again thanks for your patience!!!!!!!!!

Match your recipe to Promash. The recipe is usually written to the owners system efficency where your system could be different by 5-10%.

Just a hint to extract/specialty grain brewers - Pro Mash recommends setting the efficiency on the ingredient page to 30% if you are steeping your grain.
I've typically been within .002 of Pro Mash's calculated OG.
