Has anyone tried this "holiday" beer? It's brewed by Rockies Brewing. I tried it last night and thought it was very good. A nice balance of spices and roastiness from the dark caramel malt they use. The mouthfeel was huge! If that can be used to describe mouthfeel. It comes in at 5.9%, So it's not an out of this world beer, but still very impressive.

Thanks for the suggestion, Fret! (if you're still out there)

That would be body...

I have my hands on some Breckenridge Christmas Ale (yes, they call it Christmas) that I plan on reviewing soon as well. Based on pre-tastings, it's very roasty and medium to full bodied.

D'oh - 7.4% ABV?! I may get retroactively drunk now!

what's the big deal with calling it a christmas ale? i saw a bit on the news the other day about how "merry christmas" has all but disapeared from any type of marketing. What's up with that? MOST people in this country celebrate christmas, even if they don't practice the religion. I don't see what the big deal is.

it's easier to just say Bah Humbug... that's what I'd name a winter brew if I had the opportunity.

I think it is Bridgeport that has an Ebeneezer Ale.

Had the Never Summer ale this weekend at my local Old Chicago. Served too cold, of course, but pretty good when it warmed up a bit. See the Old Chicago Winter Tour (http://www.realbeer.com/discussions/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5451) thread.

Bruno, glad you liked the Never Summer Ale. Rockies Brewing is putting out some very interesting brews these days, helping return Boulder Beer to at least some of its former glory. And yes, Rockies Brewing would never refer to something as a "Christmas" brew; Boulder is the CO version of Berkley, CA, which is the west coast version of Madison, WI, which is the northern plains version of Burlington, VT, which is the nor'east version of Austin, TX, which is... well, you get the picture. Referring to "Christmastime" is tantamount to insulting people there sometimes! Does that mean I should get offended if someone makes a reference to Chanukkah in my presence? GRRRR.....

On a more positive note, the Denver mayor was going to replace the sign on the City/County bldg that read "Merry Christmas" with one that said "Happy Holidays", but after a HUGE backlash, he said "Let's give the people what they want", and when it comes time to replace the sign, the original message will stand. Pretty cool, eh?

Eyes are improving day by day... got things set up so I'm a full 2.5 feet from my monitor, and my vision is much happier. Very busy time, though - pretty hard to sit in front of the computer for hours every morning as I used to. But that means I'm usually making money. After this season is over we're probably going to move across town (yep, moving AGAIN), so I'll be in the same boat regarding time. Oh well... I'll do my best to drop in from time to time!

Glad you getting better Fret. I'm thinking my daily total of posts must have decreased since you stopped posting. Less to respond to. :D

I picked up a sixer of this over the weekend. I agree with your comments, the body is indeed a wee on the heavy side. It's a very nice beer none the less. One of my favorites so far, along with the Pyramid Snow Cap.

Cheers!

You can always add club soda to decrease the mouthfeel....
