View Full Version : Oxidation question
This afternoon I was transferring from primary to secondary using my auto-siphon. So the auto-siphon kept stopping (no explanation) so I had to restart it several times. Towards the end of the racking, the siphon slipped and I pumped some air into the secondary, not a bunch, but enough to make it gurgle. So my question is...How long do I have before the beer suffers significant flavor damage. I had intended to let this thing sit for about a month. Any thoughts?
Not that it makes any diff, but here are some specifics:
OG: 1.090
Current Gravity: 1.022.
Age: 5 days.
8oz of hops in 6 gallons of wort.

I sincerely believe that you have done it no harm at all.

I'm with toney on this one.Last month when i moved i put my carboy full of pale ale in the front seat of my truck and drove 25 miles with it sloshing around. This included going down a 2/3 mile freshly stoned, ungraded gravel road, with no ill effects.I must say that i was surprised how good that beer was.
P.S.The road was freshly stoned not I:D
That's what I was hoping to see. I am usually pretty careful, but I wasn't sure how deep that yeast cake was. Can't wait to bottle this one, it's my first IPA.

YEAH! ain't it cool!
I used EKG for all the hops. It almost knocked me on my butt when I stuck my head into the fermenter for a sniff. Tastes pretty good though for as young as it was. I originally intended to dilitue it down to 1.072-ish, but the fermentation took hold so fast I didn't want to risk, oddly, oxidation.
