View Full Version : Is gravity reading affected by CO2 pressure in Cornie

I was wondering about taking FG readings.

I am using my Cornie as my secondary and of course will dispense from that (tonight I hope for the first taste of my Bitter).

I took a gravity reading when I racked off primary into the keg and had 1.011. My OG was 1.044.

My question is will a gravity reading upon dispense with 1-2 volumes COs affect my reading?

I am used to taking three gravity readings, one going into primary, one going into secondary, and then the last going into bottles. Now that I keg is my racking gravity (RG) basically my final gravity?

Yes, carbonation will affect your gravity. When you take a sample, you can de-gas it by pouring it back and forth between a couple of glasses a few to several times, then let it settle for about 10 minutes. Then you can get a much more accurate gravity reading.
