I have an ale that has been sitiing in secondary fermenter for 4 or 5 months. I finally have time to bottle tonight. Do you think it will take longer than 2 weeks to carbonate? I have not taken a hydro readin in some time but I figure between 4.5 to 5.75 abv based on past experince.

Yesterday I bottled a porter that was in the secondary for 3 weeks and I wonderd about how much yeast falls out of suspension in just that amount of time. After 5 months would it be advisable to add small amount of new yeast to each bottle? Or does enough yeast stay suspended to carbonate?

I left a bitter in secondary for about 5 months at the start of the year. I just primed as normal, and it turned out fine. I think my general clumsiness in moving things about probably stirred some sediment up.
I can't recall axactly how long before it was carbonated, but I know I was trying it within two weeks, for fear of infection. Turned out fime though.

I had an amber that was in the secondary for 1-1/2 months. It took about a month to get good carbonation on it. So I would suspect that it might take even longer after 5 months, if there is yeast left to do the job.
