Picked up a bottle of this last weekend purely on a whim. I almost passed it up in favor of something else because I was wary of the whole apricot thing, but I'm glad I didn't. Wow. I like this beer a lot.
Aprihop is an IPA brewed with apricots (as you might expect), 7% ABV.
Pours a very attractive light amber-orange, hazy in the glass, with an off-milk colored head that poured fairly small and dissipated fairly quickly. This beer is pretty carbonated, I could see prominent bubbles well past the first pour. A small but attractive amount of lacing.
The nose was light and fruity, I could smell a citrusy orange more than the apricots.
The beer tastes quite hoppy, a good tart-sweet bite front and back. But it also has a good malt profile, biscuity, maybe pie crust. Lots of fruit notes -- orange, apricot, white raisins, but not at all oversweet. In fact the sweetness was pretty subtle, the apricot was not at all overwhelming as I had feared. A thin to moderate body.
Dogfish Head did a good job balancing an IPA's natural bitter taste, especially on the finish, with the malts and apricot/orange taste, without taking away from its hop flavor.
I'll definitely be buying more.
