Any ideas on straining the hops out of the trub. I have used a cheese cloth but it is a pain. Is there a strainer that fits on top of a primary bucket?
Have you tried putting a chore boy copper scrubber over your exit port? It works well with whole hops, so-so for pellets.

have you ever seen a frying-pan grease splatter screen? They sell them at Bed-bath and beyond. Basically it is a fine wire mesh screen that is about 12-15" in diameter that you put over your frying pan to keep grease from splattering, but still let steam out
you can place it right over a fermentation bucket and pour your wort through it (slowly, of course)

I also use a frying pan splatter screen SS and i used bolt cutters to chop off the handle and use bungie cords to temporarily keep it from sliding while pouring. However I have to admit , most times I let the hops ride it out on their own, after 2 rackings Im always clean...thus Im a secondary yeast cultivator, primary gets tossed.

I do not have a spout on my boiling pot so I will look for a strainer and see how that works. I try to keep as much of the hops out of the primary as I can, it seems as though the beer is more clear. I do not know how this effects the taste.
I have never tried this before, but many people have discussed whirlpooling the boiling pot and then racking to the primary. This will leave behind hop residue and hot break material.

I have tried this and there is so much material that is suspended in the wort that does not settle right away. Maybe if let it was sit for a longer time but I like to get it into the primary as soon as it is cool.
