Magnolia Pub in the Upper Haight is currently pouring a very tasty cask Bitter; Pearly Baker's Best. Very British in style, with plenty of malt and aromatics. Mmmmm! Also, they have $2.50 20oz nonicks all day Tuesday. That's today! Worth a trip for those in the San Francisco area.

I happened to read about the reopening during the holiday and decided to take a gander whilst tossing back a few. Like Dave says, "Mostly the kitchen" but it's all shiny and new inside. The beer was spot on that night. I'll be there next Tuesday for the cheap beer and a session of the Best.
See you there...

well the pearly baker's best was excellent. just the perfect pint of bitter. I liked it better even than their standard blue bell bitter, which is more of an ESB. Hit the spot right after a final. I was hoping their winter would be on cask, but it wasn't. I'll have to check back for that, since I didn't try it tonight in the hopes Ill get it on cask in the future. Very hard to argue with $2.50 imperial pints, especially of quality cask beer.

Also, on tap yesterday at Magnolia's was Burton Bridge Top Dog Stout. Not as complex as I remeber, but still reminded me of a deep, dark chocolate bar. Rich, malty, and solid body (not the chocolate bar, the beer). Traveled from the UK without too much jet lag. Look forword to a few other imported tasty treats from the cask at Magnolia.
Last night the Best wasn't as aromatic as the week before. I missed that, but it was still a fine pour especially for $2.50. You don't even want to know how many beer I drank. Nice walk home in the rain back to the Heights.

heh, i didn't try the imported stout tho i was tempted. it would be cool to try more imported cask beers, but when im there on tuesday, sometimes the price of their beer gets the better of me. i still found the pearly's best to have a good aroma, though there wasn't too much hop aroma. still i found it very satisfying. i hope they keep brewing it. i was there from about 5-630, sitting at a table haggard after a final. Ill probably be back in two weeks when things calm down.

I think I arrived around 5:30ish and met up with friends sitting at the bar close to the window. Ended up collecting close to 13 friends for drinks that evening. Nice to visit with people and take over the bar. Though I could have stopped one or two short and been better off.
