I drain, rinse & clean my bottles well and wash them in dishwasher 7 run thr dry cycle and foil-cap them upon removal from machine

I have had ZERO contamination problems.

I want to get a bottle tree and a Vinator and shoot a shot of iodophor into them prior to foil-capping

Is this redundant since "it aint broke" ?

I have gotten into the habit of rinsing my bottles out "immediately" after emptying them. I could be three sheets and still have this habit.
As for "washing" them in the dishwasher, I don't. I wash by hand. You can sanitize them in the "heat cycle" but I don't do that either. I prefer the hard way.

If it working for you, I'd say "have at it."

i never wash the bottles with soap. since i drink from a glass, upon pouring i thoroughly rinse all the yeast and such out with hot water, then sanitize on bottling day...but, as you say, if it works, don't fix it.

I'm with b3's and Dreamweaver on this one.

However I'm not sure what is meant by "foil-capping".

foil-capping -- putting tin foil over the bottle with the potential aid of rubber bands. my only thing on this is...did you sanitize the tin foil?

I rinse mine immediately after emptying; put in dishwasher before re-filling, and rinse in Star-san or One-step immediately before filling.
My caps also sit in a pan of One-step before being put on the bottles; I never boil them anymore.

Is there any advantage to foil capping?

Seems like a lot of trouble.

I'm not sure what "foil capping" is. Maybe Yodar was wanting to simply place foil over the bottle openings until he was ready to use the bottles?. I sometimes do this for storage after cleaning my bottles and/but before sanitizing them to keep spiders and bugs or dust out. I never called it "foil capping" though.

Words mean things Yodar, so give us another "word" :D

Yodar, just remember you need to do two step, cleaning and sanitizing. right now you're cleaning (your initial rinse) and sanitizing (the dishwasher drying cycle). you're not getting much cleaning action from your dishwasher, so I wouldn't rely on that. If you get the bottle tree and the idophor, you can skip the dishwasher, so it's your call...

I drink a lot of micro's and also have gotten into the habit of rinsing. When I get enough empties, I hand wash to remove lables, etc, then in the dishwasher. on bottling day I hand clean and run through the dishwasher heat cycle.
In short, clean and sanitize before storage, and just like canning, clean and sanitize just before use.
