I am looking for a web site that has all grain recipies and what to expect in the taste of the beer. I want to try new beers but would like to know what they are going to taste like to determine my choice. Any Ideas??

Recipator (http://www.hbd.org/recipator) has a recipe database as well as an online recipe calculator.

Michael Jackson's site (http://www.beerhunter.com) has a list of styles and tasting notes (albeit not complete, for some reason he wants you to buy his books!)

also check out the ProMash recipe page. if you don't have ProMash, while you're there, download the free trial, for AG it's pretty close to a must have...

Unless, of course, you utilize a competing OS to DOS.

ProMash does run under Wine on Linux and VirtualPC on the Mac. I have used it on Linux. The emulation isn't perfect, but it does work. I have been getting increasingly frustrated with Windows for the last couple of years and have finally decided that my next computer *will* be a Mac. So I'll let you know how it goes when I get there, ok? As for Dos, well, um, I can't help you there.

Thanks all. Those look like great sites and will have to investigate further. There is so many beers out now I don't know where to start. The nice thing about home brew is they all taste good.

I recommend getting a copy of clone brews or something similar and clone beers you know you already like, then maybe get a copy of designing great beers to find out about styles and what tends to go into those styles.

Another thing I have done is, I have a standard pale ale recipe (the standard recipe from Palmer's How To Brew plus steeping a pound of Caramel 20) that I will change the hops on just to discover what those hops do. So far I have made this with cascade, northern brewer, and Tetnang just to figure those hops out.

Windows is DOS :P I doubt I will buy a $100 software package (owned by the evil empire) to run one program...

I will look for these also. That is simular to what I did on a previous batch, I have a list of grains, yeast and hops and what flavors they add and mixed up my own creation. It wasn't as high in acohol as I would like but taste was very good.

Sorry, but Windows NT/2000/XP are definitely NOT DOS.
