Yet another brewpub review. OK, this place had actual food! I ate lunch and supper there. For lunch I had a passable fish and chips (nothing like my fish recipe, but quite tasty). For supper I had Carne Adovado (good flavor, not quite spicy enough -- the black beans were really good, which is saying something, because I usually hate black beans).
Started off with a sampler, and I'll call out the beers I found decent (note: I did not try the hefeweizen as I detest wheat beers). The oatmeal stout had really decent head retention, very smooth, with a kind of nutty finish to it. The Peach Ale (yeah, you read that correctly) was actually quite nice -- a very, very good ale with a definite peach overtone to it. The Kiltlifter Scotch Ale was definitely a good, malty, strong ale with a bit of a peaty aftertaste and a definite alcohol bite. The Pale Ale was definitely a good session beer with a nice pleasant mix of 2-row and hops (couldn't quite make it out, but a good northern brewer nose to it). The IPA was definitely big hops and a strong alcohol bite, and definitely within style. The seasonal (a barley wine) had a very complex hop profile, a strong alcohol bite (11%), and really was a pleasing palate experience. There were about four other beers that were decent, but that I did not really take notes on.
Apparently I will miss tomorrow's kegging of another seasonal, their pumpkin porter, which is made with pumpkin extract. By all accounts, a really decent beer.
Also, Four Seasons does a cask conditioned ale Wednesday thru Saturday (which I will also miss).
I was also informed that I should try B.J.'s next time I am in town (which is actually closer to where the new offices will be), so that will probably be my next review. In the mean time, this place (Four Peaks) is on my must stop at list for Tempe, AZ.
