I saw this at the paint store, and picked it up without knowing more than it is, as the label states, an "Ale aged in oak barrels". Turns out its the Blithering Idiots aged in bourbon barrels. The 22oz bottle kept me quite happy and warm during the Eagle's complete stomping of the Cowboys!!!
anyway...
Deep brown with bright ruby highlights, very clear. Creamy light tan head. Roasted malt aromas, earthy and woodsy, over hints of pineapple hops. Creamy sweet malt and crisp bitterness balance upfront give way to toast, oak and bourbon. Intense pine and alcohol flavors in the finish. Definite alcohol warmth and lingering sweetness on the way down. A minute or 2 after a sip, there is still a woody tannic flavor, like I had been chewing on autumn leaves.
well, now i gotta go back to the paint store, pick up another bottle or 3 and leave them laying in the basement...
