I am in Albuquerque for a few days and would love to find some good beer. I especially like cask conditioned beers, but I like most anything that is good. Any suggestions?

Blue Corn Cafe was pretty good:

I've had Il Vicino's IPA and like it, but never been to their brewery:

Kalleh, you will have to give us a report when you get back. Good luck finding casks. I'm gonna take a little beer tour of Pennsylvania this coming weekend with a buddy of mine. I've got Lew's book and a map. :D

Rio Grande and Cabezon are two microbrews in the area (although I think one bought the other one out recently). If memory serves, Rio Grande brews a bock that's pretty decent. And Sierra Grande is a brewery over in Carrizozo. Just don't drink the Roswell Alien Amber Ale. Pretty plain. Funky label, though!

Ditto on the Il Vicino and Blue Corn; I was just out there about a month ago, and I thought the Il Vicino Brown was a standout. Also, if you venture north into Santa Fe (about an hour up I-25), Second Street has some nice brews (especially their IPA), and Santa Fe Brewing Co. has an interesting Pale Ale - they bottle, so you might find it in Albuquerque.
Oh, and make sure you order "Christmas Tree" style on all of your Mexican dishes - yum.

Please explain.
The Santa Fe bottles used to make it out this way. Have not seen it in a while though.

I've spent alot of time in New Mexico in recent years, and whenever you eat out, you're almost always asked whether you want red chiles, green chiles, or christmas tree (red and green chiles) with your dish. All of the chiles are grown in Southern New Mexico (around the town of Hatch), and they are fresh, hot, and delicious.
So, I prefer "Christmas Tree" style.

Well, I tried to go to some of those places you recommended, but I was told it would be a $50 cab ride. So, I asked one of the locals, and he recommended this place called Maloney's Tavern. Really, it had a great atmosphere, and they also had quite a variety on tap (and delicious food)...more tap beers than most of our Chicago bars (hopefully Steve isn't reading this!). They had some great Oregon and California microbrews, and I enjoyed it there.
Thanks for your suggestions. Maybe next time.

I always prefer the green. I've had some of the best burritos down there (other than Big City, of course :) ).

I am, >sigh< We really need to get Kalleh out in her hometown more often, then maybe she'll stop "assuming." ;)
S.BTW - Spud, Spud-Light, Swiller, Swiller Lite, Boors, Silver Mullet, and Spud Lite Dry Ice Red do NOT count in a tap tally you know!

Well she has been to the Brickskeller too and all else pales in comparison to their selection. Unfortunately they have no beer on tap. They do , however, have casks from the UK most weekends in the upstairs bar.

D'oh! Then let's not talk at all about paling (or pailing) by comparison! I just sent and e-mail to Kalleh about the Chi place we need to go (among others), 33 beers on tap.

Somewhat redeemed.

Now, I know you've been working on a NATIONAL get-together, but I don't know if I'd be able to put something like that together here in Fort Fun... OTOH, you seem to be able to get wherever you want to go at a moment's notice, so if I can make this happen you're more than welcome to show! I'll see what I can do, given limited fundage (AC compressor just fried in the car - looking at about $2500 to fix - OUCH!) and limited time. But it would be very cool! Beaver and anyone else in the area, whaddya think?

Now, Steve, what are you doing in the southwest thread anyway?;) Really, they had good beers on tap, even in the airport. I was impressed. They had some of the swills, too, but they had microbrews from Oregon and Washington and California. I just don't remember all the names.
I am about to check my e-mail, Steve. You know I'd love to try some new places. After all, most (all, actually) of the places I like came from your suggestions.

Steveh, Any word on the Real Ale Fest yet? Looks like my dates for Costa Rica may be moving and I may possibly be able to get to Chicago the first weekend in March.
