Just got back from Arizona, and had a great time with some excellent beers - here's the rundown...
Day 1 - Prescott Brewing Company. We arrived just in time for their closing happy hour. Their IPA and Petrified Porter were great (as always), and made it well worth the drive already.
Day 2 - Lunch at Prescott Brewing Company, then south into the Phoenix area. Second stop of the day was to Sonora's Brewhouse on Camelback. I find Uwe there to be a fairly respectable brewer. We had a Burning Bird Pale Ale, a cask Amber that was heavily dry hopped, and something called Double D Imperial Blonde. What a beer - it looks like a golden ale, but the aroma gives away this big beer's true nature, a 8.5% abv monster.
Next stop was at Papago Brewing Company in Scottsdale. What can I say, this place is just plain spot on in my book. Plenty of taps, plenty of bottles, overwhelming selection of both, with nothing but good, quality brews to be had. I got pumped up on hops with Sierra's Harvest Ale, a cask conditioned IPA from Sonora Brewing, and Papago's own ultra hoppy double IPA. I was literally picking hops out from my teeth.
Day 3 - Lots of NASCAR stuff but with a stop at Top's Liquor in Tempe. This is another wonderful place with what seemed like bottled beer from just about every place on the planet. I thought I was a seasoned beer drinker, but there were brews in there that I'd never even seen or heard of. I spent a total of $110 on mix and match sixers and bombers.
Day 4 - Lots of NASCAR stuff but with dinner at Four Peaks Brewpub in Tempe. Another winner. Lots of seating, indoors and out, wide open spaces, and beers for just about anybody's palate. I had their Golden Ale, Peach Ale, Raj IPA, and the Hopsquatch Barleywine. All were well made, very drinkable beers that fit well into their style guidelines, nothing too crazy.
Day 5 - Back in Las Vegas figuring out what to do with all this damn beer.
Cheers
