View Full Version : True story: Women chase away beer trucks

Women in the Mexican village of Teenek have cut off the beer supply to the mountain town by chasing away delivery trucks.
The women greet the trucks by shouting "Get out! Get out!", and have left the town basically dry except for special ceremonies.
The women told a local newspaper they are fed up with their men stumbling home drunk and even falling over in corn fields.
The men in town have been described as "looking sad."
No wonder.

I am glad you didn't say most women! There are many women who, in fact, are beer connoisseurs.

Well, fancy meeting you here!
I think the point that was being made here was not about women's like or dislike of beer but about men's like or dislike of women.
Naturally, connoisseurs will have their reservations about the probable quality of the Mexican beer in any case, so maybe the real truth is that the women were connoisseurs who were protesting about the ice-cold and flavourless fizz that, in my experience, seems to pass for beer in Mexico.

So true! Itīs just a way to make the men know whatīs good and not! All just caring for their men...;-)
Hm...however...I might not be a connoisseur, but I do love my beer...

Yes, I realize that this thread was about Mexico, but my comment was more about women beerdrinkers in general...;-)
My signature had nothing to do with the discussion, itīs more meant like a compliment to the beers around here, but to answer your question...Iīm from Sweden (not too many good beers there...) but raised in a very German environment!

I understand - you're the European beerlover...!
Well, it certainly seems that US beers are having a wonderful renaissence, According the Michael Jackson, around 1500 good beers now - as opposed to maybe a dozen 15 years ago.
You'll soon be catching us up in the UK (around 5000 beers was the last figure I heard)

I am second generation American on my maternal side, my Grandfather came to America from Sweeden when he was young.
So, what Swedish beers are there that can be found in America that I can be on the lookout for? I know there are not many.

When I last went to Sweden there was no beer worth the name to be had. Scandinavia is not a good area for beer in general - due in part, I'm sure, to the draconian drinking laws.
Denmark is possibly the most "liberated" of all the Scandinavian countries insofar as alcohol is concerned, but when you recall that they are proud to own to the production of Carlsberg, the self styled "Probably the Best Lager in the World" you will appreciate that there is little hope!
Incidentally, I was in a pub last night (drinking Harvey's Mild, as it happens - but that's another story) and they had a menu of the beers they sold. Under lagers they had Budweiser - but were careful to point out that they were selling the Czech version, not the the AB chemical concoction. They also sold Carlsberg and against its description had written, "Probably...lager".
Who would want to drink that rubbish when offered a choice of all of Harvery's excellent ales, I cannot conceive!

Hm...Iīm not sure you can actually find any Swedish beers around here...and yes, we probably should be happy about that, since most of them are not worth while.
However...times are changing and there are a couple of newer breweries that are def. worth checking out in case you ever come to Sweden or by any awkward chance these beers while be exported here...
The "Jämtlands Bryggeri" has an assortment of beers that are really good! Just the names make it worth a try..."Heaven" and "Hell" are among the bestsellers.
Other than that one of my favorites is "Lundgrens Lager".
When it comes to drinking beer in Sweden I can only speak for Stockholm...but there are some of the best pubs Iīve ever been to. One example is Akkurat, that has the biggest selection of beer and whiskey I ever encountered, and then there are massses of Irish pubs and well...actually there more or less is a bar in every corner nowadays...

Although this is a US site it can be posted to by anyone from anywhere. Can I suggest that those who post drop in an occasional reference to their location?
