I'd rather hang out with friends at home and knock a few back.

I voted at home with friends but my other choice place was not listed. In a dead heat for at home with friends is in the parking lot of the rink with my team mates after a good skate. I can't believe that option was not presented in the poll.

Yeah - sorry I missed that :(
Let's assume for argument's sake that "home" means not at a bar.

LOL. Well considering there are only two of us who might consider that location for a beer, you are forgiven.
ok, i voted for "at the pub with friends" -- but as long as it is with friends, then the actual venue is irrelevant with me...good beer and good friends (even if it is online while we are hoisting some almighty pints).
one place i don't like to drink is anywhere with co-workers (obvious exception, co-workers who make it to friend status): regardless of where you are and what you are doing, if you are with co-workers, you are at work....
actually, upon reflection, there is someone else i'd rather drink beer with than friends, and i would gladly sell my soul (even to the republicrat or demlican parties) to be able to do so for the rest of my life...alas...

I'm one of those weirdos who likes to be at home where I can really get into the flavor of a brew. I don't like to be disturbed or distracted when I'm drinking beer - it's almost like talking during someone's favorite TV show. My wife is usually around when I imbibe, but she doesn't drink beer (although she really liked the Chocolate Stout from FCB - I may finally have gotten a foot in the door!), and she doesn't really count as a "friend", so I voted for #4.

Uh...there's no "all of the above." Actually, since I've been going to the same few pubs for so long, especially the local, it's rare that there isn't a friend to have a casual beer with.

At home with friends for me, but at pub with friends is a close second.
At the Pub with friends, many times after work. Any if friends aren't available I will drink at the pub alone (which is almost as weird as drinking alone at home):D
At the pub with friends. At my local, there's always someone there I know, even if it's the bar staff, so it never seems like 'alone' when I go in on my own.
My second choice would actually be at home alone. I really enjoy kicking back, when the kids are in bed, and enjoying a beer. If my wife isn't out running or something, she usually drinks wine, so it still counts as drinking beer alone.

at home with friends, and its easy to get friends to come over when i have homebrew on tap! otherwise, the pub with friends is a close 2nd. its just that its about a 20-25min drive to the good bars in philly for me. otherwise, there are a couple OK sports-type bars closer by.

I voted for the pub with friends and by this I mean a real pub in the UK with cask ales. Since I only do that a couple times a year I guess at home would be my fallback.

My son turns 18 in a month and I'm planning his Xmas and birthday gifts. He really wants to visit Germany so I am toying with taking him over as one of his gifts. I mean you only turn 18 once. He has been to England several times and France once. He has been after me to go to Germany. I'm thinking it is time.

Pub with friends. I enjoy all the other options, but an evening out at the Public House with good company is unbeatable.
Of course it entirely depends on the pub. In some pubs you can have a really good time, but no way that you have the chance to enjoy a good brew. I know a couple of pubs back in the Netherlands on the other hand... Quiet atmosphere, lots of choice of good beer on tap, and an enthousiastic bartender showing you what new beers he has this week... Now that's a bar you can enjoy a beer with friends!

Agreed. Enthusiastic staff who are knowlegeable about the beer is important. The brickskeller holds classes for its waiters and waitresses.

Definitely at home with friends. At home because I wouldn't have to worry about consuming too many frosty beverages....and with good friends just 'cause I don't like drinking alone.

I'd drink more with friends if more of my friends drank beer... it feels weird to bring a 6 pack to a gathering and be the only one drinking anything from it. All of my friends are wine snobs! :(

Well as long as you are not hiding bottles all over your home and claim that you do not drink. It is OK to have one alone.

Hah! When you walk into the front room the first thing you see is a medium-sized refrigerator, and if you open it up you'll find about 2 cases of beer in there, almost all different stuff! Pretty hard to deny that I enjoy a brew, if you ask me.... :)
I'll have one or two in an evening hanging out with my wife (who doesn't like beer - more for me!), and that will usually be spread out over 2-4 hours. But yeah, I see your point, and have had a few friends in that situation. Pretty scary.

That's the way it is in my house, wife doesn't drink, more for me. Her frugal ways don't help, if she knows I need beer for something she looks for the sales and of course it is mostly for the bmc brands. I like doing my brew shopping on my own, it allows time to ponder the greater things in life: Ale or Lager, Stout or Porter, radical or subdue label, etc....

Thankfully, my wife is clear enough on what I like to not go near anything that looks remotely trendy or overly popular. And she enjoys the smell of it - I'll pour, hand it to her, she'll give it a sniff and tell me her impressions of it, and hand it back. She doesn't care for hoppy brews. And she actually split a Murphy's Irish Stout with me about a year ago... there's hope for her yet! :)

Your wifey sounds like mine. She will take a very small sip and tell me her impressions. She never complains about how much beer I have stacked around my beer fridge cuz I can't fit any more in. :D

Well, sometimes she will comment that beers have been invading the family fridge when i start putting them in there too.:(

Same here. My fridge is packed to the gills - I'm going to have to remove the barleywines and IPAs and put them in a cool dark corner if I want to add anything at this point!

Drinking at home alone,I enjoy the comfort, and I don't have to deal with any aggravations that come with drinking at a pub.I'm a loner by nature too,and I'd rather be by myself or with a few friends than being with a lot of strangers.

I'm sort of like you. I drink maybe one a night occasionally more when I'm out or at the beach. Problem is I keep buying lots of beer and I drink it slower than I aquire it.
I voted at home alone. I like to drink while watching a sports game or movie when its to cold outside. When the weather is nice I love setting out on my veranda. None of my friends drink so by myself is the only option.
I voted at home with friends. I really enjoy knocking back a sixer while grilling some brats on the hot summer nights(almost here!). Whether its my favorite swill:eek: or something a little thicker those times make the memories.

The local hangout is fine, but at home with some cool people is always the way to fly. You get to listen to your own music, smoke if you want to (Madison just passed a smoking ban in all public buildings), and if you drink to much, you can pass out and sleep it off.

Be careful what you wish for . . .
My wife has come to enjoy good beer as of late. Now when the beer supply runs low she starts claiming beers in the fridge. She did this with a SNPA the other day, two days later I cracked it open after laboring in the yard for 3 hours. She says, "Hey, you can't drink that!". So I give it to her and grab for a different beer and she says, "That's mine too!".

So enjoy a few pulls, and hand it to her, if she is not in the mood to drink at that particular moment, it is all yours. :p

Wow, I'm the only one who chose "At the Pub by Myself". This is probably due to the time I spent in Portland, OR. I would go to the Rogue pub almost everyday (you have to if you want to win that big Pint Club jackpot). I like making friends with the bartenders and the folks around me, which I have a hard time doing when I'm with friends.

<sigh> As with everythng in the house (save for porters that were sent to me that I only have one of and are awaiting tasting), I always say, "There's more where that came from - go ahead." Instead of "calling dibs" on stuff in the kitchen, we usually say "The rest of ____ is yours; you haven't had enough of it yet." And so on, and so on. Yeah, I'm sure we're annoyingly cute... ;)

I chose at home with friends, although there are a couple of caveats to my selection:
I'm assuming that this selection also includes "at friends home with friends", because it can be just as enjoyable to be in that private atmosphere with friends. Afterall what would your friends pick in the poll if they were always over at your place.
I usually drink one or two beers at home every night. It's more along the lines of "I'm thirsty, so I might as well drink something I really like". Even though this is how I most often drink, it's not "preferred"
In my opinion, at any pub worth going to you'll never be drinking alone because the bartender will always be there. Any place where the bartender is just some guy/gal that just serves drinks I try to avoid - with friends or not.
