Does anyone know of a Brew on premises in NC? If not NC, maybe VA?
Thanks in advance,
Tim

Welcome to the board! Shenandoah In Alexandria, VA is a BOP and a brewery as well. I think there is also one in Charlottesville VA.

Apparently the one in Charlottesville, called Monticello, is closed. There's a new one in Staunton called Queen City Brewing, with reviews on Pubcrawler (http://www.pubcrawler.com/Template/ReviewWC.cfm/flat/BrewerID=104549) .
Besides being a BOP, looks like they're gonna have their own beers, too.

They are places where you can brew your own beer on their equipment. I forget how big the batch sizes generally are (maybe 20 gallons?). They have a list of recipes that you can choose from, and are priced according to style, ingredients, etc.
They supply everything. You show up, brew, come back to bottle, then pick up when ready.
There's one in Freehold NJ that i've wanted to go to, but haven't yet. I've heard good things, though.

I thought that Monticello was just a brewpub. I got two growlers from them a few years ago.
There was another brewery in Cville that I had not been to. I think it was in a bowling alley or something.

That's Kegler's in Cville. There's also Star Hill, and maybe one other (South Street or something?). I think Keglers is extract.
I did research because I was trying to get through Cville on our vacation to hit at least one of those, but it didn't work out. (I've been trying to manipulate our path through VA for a while to take us on the other side of the I-81 corridor, but alas, not yet!)
Lew Bryson's coming out with a Mid-Atlantic book and has excerpts on his page that list the places, too.

Starr Hill is in the Old Blue Ridge brew pub I think. I went there several times when it was Blue Ridge. I've talked to Lew about the new book. I can't wait!

Slightly off subject but I noticed NC which is close to Tennessee, yeah?? Have any of you heard of a brewer named Martin Velas? He is rumored to be in Tennessee and owning a brewery. Hope I'm not showing my ignorance.

Marty Velas is the Brewer for the Calhoun's in Knoxville (There are several Calhoun's in Tenn, only the one in K-ville on Bearden Hill, I think, brews) and the Smoky Mountain Brewery in Gatlinburg (and soon to be in Pidgeon Forge). These restaurants all fall under the Copper Cellar Restaurants Corporate Group.
I was just at the Calhoun's last month and his beers are pretty solid. Had like 8 on, mixing Ales and Lagers, with a leaning towards German styles. I enjoyed an Octoberfest and a real nice, and nicely hopped, pils (ironically, the pils is the hoppiest beer, according to the bartender). So I guess it's not the place to go to if you want a DIPA!

Excellent. He apprenticed in Germany for 3 years ( if I recall correctly ) so it's not surprising. I've had his Bock and it is phenomenal. I shall keep this info in mind if I ever get out there. THANKS!!!
