ok so im sittin in the toronado, which has about 40 beers on tap, 4 on cask, a nice selection of belgians, california craft, some germans... basically it's pretty insane. and it's a 10 minute walk from my home. and if you come before six, everything is a buck off. and most pints are $3.50 to start anyway. so far ive tried a drake's imperial harvest ale (nice and hoppy, strong, and smoother than it has any right to be because of the cask conditioning), a sierra nevada celebration (first of the year, pretty tasty) and an aventinus (vom fass-- it smells so malty, with both clove and almost caramel, buttery aroma in a aventinus glass...yum!). sorry to just mouth off about this place, but i finally have found a happy beer spot in san francisco. there's enough good beer in this place to keep me happy for a long time. it's a bit like the map room in chicago, but with more, and only a 10 minute walk rather than a 45 minute ride on the train. the only problem now will be staying away. i take back most of the bad things i have said about beer in san francisco, although i still think the midwest has better breweries overall. if i could get bells, 3F, great lakes etc. in this place.... cheers from a happy beer drinker.

Mmmmm ... Toronado
I absolutely love this place. I've been there a few times (the only problem is NO PARKING!), and have had nothing but good times.
Check out this link for a few pictures (from a goodbye party for a co-worker of Jinja's):

I haven't been up to the Toronado in years. Guess it's time to head up there again and have a few beers. It really is a great place.

Sounds like we need to plan a get together!
Is there an upcoming saturday or sunday that works for anyone?

I think a get-together should absolutely be done. Let me look at my calendar (read: ask my wife) what's going on in the next couple of weeks. Then we can set something up.

Trouble? Don't throw me in that briar patch, b'rer bear!
New IPA on cask at Mickey Finn's, soon to be a new Brown ale as well - in a very mild form. Fortunately, it's not a 10 minute walk away...

LOL Welcome to the other side of the tracks. SF has it's share of cheesy/yuppie drinking pits but we also have our share of good ones too. Some of 'em even smell like pits! I'm glad you made it out to one of the best. Also try Zeitgeist (Excellent backyard/patio/park benches for sunny days and warm nights. Tends to be crowded for both.), Lucky 13 (Good beers, loud music, and dark mood lighting. Oooooooo!), and Bender's (Large empty bar off the beaten path).

One of the world's best beer bars only 10 minutes walk away - I wish I had your problems. Do me a favor, have a couple pints of Drake's IPA for us out here in the beer wasteland. Cheers.
