I've only been to one beer fest, but I'm hooked, I can't wait for another.

How do you folks find these festivals? Is there one central listing?

Here's one

fest-of-ale (http://www.fallfestofale.com/)

November 13, Janesville, Wisconsin

A few

interesting breweries, but several good ones too.

Try picking up the Great Lakes Brewing News. Or and and all of the other affiliated papers. you will usually find them for free at beer stores, homebrew shops, Bars, and brewpubs. Or you can subscribe as I do.

http://www.brewingnews.com/greatlakes/

They will have a calender of events and a listing of good beer bars, and brewpubs.

Also All About Beer is another worthwhile mag to subscribe to. I used to subscribe to The Malt Advocate which is an EXCELLENT magazine unfortunately they changed the focus away from beer and more towards whiskeys. Lew Bryson writes for and edits for them.

There's a number of great resources at your disposal. You could start by visiting the events section of this website, as well as Beeradvocate.com's event section. If you read Celebrator Beer News they also have an events listing in the back, as do most regional beer trade publications. There's also a wesite that specializes in beer festival listings and reviews of those events, I believe it is beerfestivals.org. And remember, most successful beer festivals repeat and refine themselves every year, just look at the Great Alaskan Beer and Barleywine Festival, Oregon Brewers Festival, and the San Diego Real Ale Festival.

They spelled Capital wrong. :/

You didn't make that other fest, in Indiana, right after the Racine fest?

not only did they spell "Capital" wrong, but there's something called "Coors Aspen Edge" and "Michelob Ultras" listed under the beers... must be another typo... :D

Hey Steve, are you going to get to the Janesville fest? (or anyone else for that matter...) I see Summit is on the list. They have a draft only (and on nitro  ) Oatmeal Stout that is dang tasty. I bet they'll have it there, I recommend it...

You had mentioned a brew-pub, or something, having a fest one afternoon and you were going to attempt to check it out... too many mushrooms in my diet again? Sorry, can't recall the town.

Danno, I probably won't make this fest -- there's a certain football competition the next day that I may be attending...

That they did, but that got me to wondering again... what IS the difference between "Capital" and "Capitol" again? I know that capitAL can mean money, and I know that in DC they talk about the CapitOL Bldg... so what gives with the brewery's title? I'm terribly confused...

I check into BA's Events Section. Pretty informative, though it's user fed, so some of the smaller, local events can fall through the cracks. I also keep my eye on the beer papers (Yankee Brew News), the local newspaper's food section and word of mouth with other beer geeks. Also, join the email list of your favorite breweries. Even the smallest ones usually have a newsletter that'll keep you up to date on any events they host.

Cheers!

Webster's:
2capital: adj 3 b: being the seat of government.

3capital: n 3 (2capital) a: a city serving as a seat of government.

4capital: n 1 a: a building in which a state legislative body meets b: a group of buildings in which the functions of state government are carried out 2: The building in which the U.S. Congress meets at Washington.

Yes, this means that the Capitol is in the Capital.

Oh yeah, Capital is named so because it is in (for the most part) Wisconsin's Capital, Madison.

Funny thing - the beer distributor here in Ohio that sells Capital has it listed in their retailer book as "Capital - District of Columbia". Geez, it the distributor doesn't even know WHERE the beer is from, you'd think they might have a tough time selling it to retailers...

So it comes as no surprise that they're discontinuing the Capital line (which means I wasn't able to load up on Autumnal Fire, Okto, and Winter Skal this year). :(

Well that's pretty weird. There is the Capitol City line of brew-pubs in and around D.C., but I don't think they bottle, thereby distribute. You need to have words with your distributor.

Capital has also started importing the Hook-Norton British ales into the U.S. Does this mean you won't be able to get those either?

Cap City is only a local chain of brewpubs. No bottles. Decent beers.
