Looking for Sweet Georgia Brown...

Anybody out there have access to Sweetwater Brewing Co? I tried a few of their Sweet Georgia Brown nut brown ales not long ago and absolutely fell in love. But I can't find it anywhere around the DC area. Plenty of other types of unusual beers, but not that one. Anybody up for a swap? Let me know what tickles your fancy and I'll see what I can come up with.

I visit GA with some frequency and can get you some around Thanksgiving at the absolute latest. Sweetwater also has a festive ale that's made around this time of year that's phenomenal. If you can wait this long I'll be glad to help you out.

Don't forget our own local Sweetwater Taverns. There are three of these brewpubs locally. Centreville, Merrifield and Sterling in NOVA. They are in no way affiliated with the GA Sweetwater though. In fact they were sued by the GA outfit and are no longer allowed to use the Sweetwater name on their bottled beer. (Which is brewed by Old Dominion.) A well respected brewer Nick Funnell is the head brewer for the brewpubs. They are owned by the Great American Restraunt Group who also own Arties, Mike's American Cafe and I think the Carlysle Grand Cafe as well as other better restraunts. They are a local chain and they are very good when it comes to service and food. A cut above most of the other restraunts in the area.

Does Old Dominion brew Tupper's Hop Pocket? If so, Kudos to them. An excellent IPA!

Yes they do. But it is Bob and Ellie's recipe. It is indeed a fine beer and one of the most successful of the brews that Old Dominion contracts. I like the pils too but not as much as the Ale.

I never see it in SC but I always grab some when I visit Marietta GA.

Chris, that would be great. I'm in no rush -- it's been probably more than a year since I've had any Sweet Georgia Brown in my fridge so another couple months won't make much difference! I'll send you a PM and we can talk more.

This is going to sound horrible, but I hardly ever venture much farther than Arlington! I live inside the Beltway and generally if I can't get it here, I just don't. Sterling wouldn't be so bad, though.

I've never much tried Old Dominion's stuff, although I did just have a bottle of their Dominion Stout, the one that's dry hopped with vanilla beans. It was tolerable, but the vanilla beans made it a little too bitter for my tastes. But then I tend to like less bitter stouts (Murphy's over Guinness, for example).

YUP! Perfect start to the New Year. Now I just have to discipline myself to make it last!

I traded the equivalent of a case of beer, SGB mostly along with Sweetwater's Festive Ale which was excellent, also some of Atlanta Brewing Co's Peachtree Pale Ale and Red Brick Ale, both of which were very good. I was entirely pleased with Chris' selections for me.

I sent him a 6 of Dogfish Head Raison D'Etre, a 6 of DH Chicory Stout, a 6 of DH Shelter Pale Ale, and a mixed 6 of Old Dominion's Winter Brew, Clipper City's Saison "Red Sky at Night," its Imperial Stout "Peg Leg," and its "Category 5" ale.

Two packages of pure joy.
