What beer are you drinking (or did you drink) during Game 7?

I'm sticking with the overall baseball theme (Cooperstown) and having some Ommegang - Hennepin and Rare Vos.

Go Sox! Up 6 - 0 middle of the 3rd. Need about 24 more runs or game over til I retire tonight. Boss knows.

What an amazing game and what an amazing series. This has to be one of the best postseasons ever. With the exception of the Giants not being in it, of course. I hung out at the brewery tonight and basically had one each of my beers. A very good night, indeed!

I pulled out a bottle of Bell's batch 6000 around the 7th inning (after I was done moving furniture...) tasty, and improving over time...

Nice all...

Whew...

Dave breath, breath...

I topped off the later innings with a Magic Hat Jinx and a Smutty Punkin Head

Exhale............................................ ....................ahhhhhhhhhhh......

Regardless of the outcome of the Series - 'still important - I need to start the brewing season off with a victory brew...TBD.

F..K A-Rod!!!

So who's gonna represent the NL in the World Series? And what beer might be appropriate for which team winning?

I'll be wearing my Cards hat all day today, and if I could get my hands on a case of Schlafly's - that'd be in my mit. As it is, I'll have to settle for the Spaten, Adnam's, and Mahrsbräu in the fridge.

Go CARDS!

Harpoon IPA has become my official Red Sox rally brew. Although, if I could get my hands on a Schlafly product out here I would probably make an exception this weekend. I lived in St. Louis several years ago - the Schlafly brewery is definitely on my short list of favorite places.

I broke out several 2003 Celebration Ales for the game last night. Very appropriate and damn tasty if anyone has some of this stashed away - now is a good time to open it.

I'll be picking up a bottle of La Fin du Monde (End of the World) for when the Sox take the Series. Hopefully, they can hold out until I get home - I'll be gone for 8 days starting Saturday to parts unknown. My wife planned a surprise trip that requires a passport - hope wherever I go enjoys American baseball.

GO SOX!

Funny. I drank my Celebrations out of a Saint Arnold pint glass last night. Now, if it comes down to Sox & 'Stros, that glass will be buried in the back of my cabinet - possibly sacrificed

Hey, 'Stros...Stroh's...any Houston fans up for some good 'ol American macro lager?

Cheers!

Seems you are outnumbered, Steveh; but as I live in a National League area and our team...well.......anyway, I got your back! :D

YANKS LOSE!!!
YANKS LOSE!!!

I myself didn't drink any beer during the game last night, I rarely have a beer on weeknights. If we are going to go by the beer most realated to the participating cities, well, I guess a Sam Adams for Boston, I'll pick their Oktoberfest. If NY would have made it I would say Brooklyn Black Stout. If Houston makes it, I dunno, what's a good Houton/Texas beer? And if we're basing this on the beer made in each city, we all must hope St. Louis does not make it. Fortuanately, that is not how it works, so we can drink any damned beer we please! During the series, I'll probably have some good seasonal beers from my neighboring state of Wisconsin, since my brother is who lives there is coming through next week on his way to SD for his annual pheasant hunting trip.

Anyway, I've had a blast reading the NY newpaper websites today. I love revelling in it when the Yankmes lose! Am I being a bad sport? Probably. Do I care? Not really. This is the best picture I've seen today, I made it my desktop wallpaper. He looks like someone stole his lunch money and took his ice cream cone and threw it on the ground. I love it!

See above - Schlafly's is a pretty well respected micro in St. Lou - and since A/B doesn't own the Cards any more - GO CARDS! ;)

I stand corrected. My mistake! I have nothing against the Cards or Astros actually.

Saint Arnolds Brewing in Houston has good stuff. I've had their Amber on cask, it was excellent. Of course one of my favorites is Real Ale Brewing, north of Austin. Great beers.

La Fin du Mond? Should we be considering that a Red Sox victory a) over the Yankees and b) in the world series could just possibly be one of the signs of the apocalypse? :D

newportstorm, sounds like you're in for a fun time, enjoy!!!

Wooooo HOOOOOO! What a series! But my boys did it! Yeee Haw.

Okay, on to beer. I was drinking our own Scots Brown Ale when the game began, hit a bottle of our own Double Chocolate Stout at about the 5th inning, and celebrated with our own Maple Beer. It just seemed an appropriately New Englandy thing to do.

[Guess I should add here that I didn't have a heart attack, although my daughter was REALLY worried I would, AND that I don't go into work until noon on Thursdays.]

Davesarman, I LOVE that pic! I'll be sending it on to all my friends!

I do hope the Cards win the NLCS, but I guess there's no doubt about who I'm rooting for in the Series! Red Sox! Red Sox! Red Sox! GO!

Not that I like baseball but we had a portable tv in the parking lot after hockey last night. I had a SA Octoberfest and a Houcs Poucs from Magic Hat. I did not watch the game as I talked with another true hockey player that thinks baseball takes a back seat to hockey. EVEN WHEN THEY AREN'T PLAYING.

Whew! What a series all around. The only thing I missed, and was hoping for last night, was a team-line of the Cardinals congratulating the Astros for being such worthy opponents (as happened in L.A. with the first playoff series).

Nonetheless, in all interviews the Cards remained the humble athletes they've been all year and didn't forget their fellow teammates, or their rivals, in praise.

Here's to the Astros for their hard-fought series, on to the championships - I hope they're not a let-down after such exciting play-offs!

Oh, and congrats Soxy...I'd sort of wondered where you'd been!

Looking forward to the Sox-Cards series!

I wasn't sure if I should post this here, or in a new thread or what, but since I'm here now, here goes:

Saw in our local paper this morning this article:
http://www.startribune.com/stories/484/5046243.html

It's a tragedy that fans have to act irresponsibly and that someone ended up losing their life. But, does the mayor of Boston seriously expect to fix this problem by banning alcohol sales during the series and banning bars and restaurants from showing the games on their tv's?

Menino said he was considering prohibiting liquor sales and asking bar and restaurant operators to ban live television coverage during games to curb the rowdiness. ``Since people won't accept responsibility, I, as mayor, will take it into my own hands,'' Menino said.

Menino planned to meet with bar and nightclub owners today. He said he was considering invoking a state law, never before used in Boston, that would allow him to ban the sale or distribution of alcohol ``in cases of riot or great public excitement.''

This seems awfully short sighted to me and likely to cause more of the problem that it was trying to fix. A couple years ago we has some pretty serious rioting on the U of M campus when we won the NCAA hockey title. The next year we won it again, but there were no riots, because the law enforcement of the city, university, arena, etc. were all better prepared. This happens all over the country and it never fails to amaze me how stupid people can act over sports. Fans need to behave themselves too. But banning alcohol and broadcast of the sports event is not the solution!

It never ceases to amaze me just how dumb a lot of people can get in these situations. We have a bunch of fools who trash everything in sight because "they" won. These morons didn't win anything. Now all the good people of Boston are facing yet another silly rule which will only create headaches for the average law-abiding fan (I seriously doubt whether anyone foolish enough to throw a flaming toilet paper roll at a cop will be deterred by having his or her access to a bar removed).

I was in Baltimore a few years back when they (not me) won the Super Bowl. By the time the game was over, I had had quite a few beers. Oddly, I never felt the urge to jump up and down on the hood on someone else's car...

(I promise to stop being so self-righteous now.)

I just realized that if the Boston mayor does what he says he might, the title of this thread just became more apropos.

One thing not to be overlooked is that Fan is short for fanatic.
My family thinks I'm crazy : hunched over a scorecard, headphones on, plugged into the computer and laughing (at Joe & Jerry on WEEI) or yelling (go, Nixon, go) or muttering (oh god, oh god not again).

After last year's upset, I do understand the release and euphoria. Last year was SO disappointing - Sobbing for days. I still can't watch the Boston Red Sox movie about last season without bursting into tears all through it. AND I KNOW HOW IT ENDS. That said, I still find human nature baffling. I wish that I could have spent game 7 of the ALCS with other Red Sox Fans, and I know we'd have gone a little wild, but I just don't get the whole wrecker mentality.

We have a friend who lives in England, and he says that whenever there is a big tournament (usually football or rugby) that there are people, I guess you'd call them anarchists really, who come to the celebration to CAUSE problems. They are not fans of the sport, much less the teams involved, they just want to stir up trouble. Wreckers.

But telling anyone, particularly Bostonians, that they can't drink during the WORLD SERIES? After an 18 year WS drought and an 86 year WINNING drought : Dear god, what's the world coming to?

And stevah? That was great in LA. But alot of that was LaRussa and Tracey. I know it was the ex-hockey players on the Cards who thought of it, but without the green light from both LaRussa and Jim Tracey it would never have happened. As for where I've been? I've been plugged into the computer listening to the games! (Lest we forget poor, poor Soxy lives in the wilderness and doesn't get Fox because bleeping Directv hasn't hooked us up to local channels like they promised they would THREE YEARS AGO.)

So best wishes to the Cards, and how exciting to have the WS here where I live! Too bad I'll be rooting for the visitors!
Go Sox Go!
