Is it a derogatory slang term combining customers of the mortgage service and the beers they might drink? Along the lines of Bud being NASCAR beer?

Maybe it's beer that you borrow, and never pay back?

Not bashing - only quoting a common observation, even from my friends who are also NASCAR fans (don't you guys get bored watching those cars just circle, and circle, and...). ;)

How many NASCAR drivers does it take to change a light bulb?
None. They can't turn ANYTHING to the right. :p
(Okay, okay, 4 times a year they go in reverse, but who cares.... what if they burn out a light bulb before then? Do they get their crew to install it with a pneumatic wrench or something?)

No freaking crap!!!
Lucky me, they built the Kansas Speedway within 15 minutes of my house so when there is a race going on there is nothing but rednecks from hell in town.
I say throw them for a loop and make them go clockwise for a change.

Actually, they do go clockwise - four races a year. I only know this because someone pointed out the flaw in my light bulb joke (see above)...

They're only watching to see the wrecks. And they could see them on the highlights during the news sportscast. I HATE NASCAR.

I have a good friend who works in NASCAR and several times a year we all meet up at a track, watch the race from the pits, talk to the owners and drivers, watch them work on the cars in the garage, etc. Its one of those things where you "shouldn't knock it until you've tried it." I am super intrigued by all the engineering that goes into those cars. I also love it because its one of the few times the super rich and the more common folk can come together and have fun. And for the record I am also an INDY, Champ Car, and Formula 1 fan.

yeah, nascar gets the big eye roll from me too... however, every now and then when I'm flipping channels, I'll come across European rallys on the Speed channel, two guys racing in little AWD subarus through the mountains at impossible speeds, THAT's racing... reading a map at 110 mph on a single lane dirt road seems like loads of fun...

The only thing that redeems it for me is that Joe Gibbs is involved with it. My ex father in law (who is a multi millionaire) Moved to Daytona to be close to it. He knows all the drivers since the 1960s. They all used to visit him when they came through this area and he has lots of pictures. I hate the black t shirted Dale rednecks and all the Jeff Gordon stuff.

Yeah, dont get me worng, when I am at a race, I make the most fun of all the "creative" NASCAR garb that you see. Its very entertaining. But I do recommed going to a race to check it out. Get a scanner and a good set of headphones though, or you wont be able to hear anything. Oh yeah, and you can bring your own beer, so you dont have to worry about buying only BMC.

hey, i think nascar's roots are based in something we can all enjoy -- alcohol!
guys started modifying and racing their cars in the south to out run the cops while transporting moonshine during prohibition. eventually, it evolved into a sport in and of itself.
damn the (prohibition) man!! thats what i say... ;)

Sallad,
You are correct. The first stock car drivers were Homebrewers and moonshiners/runners. Some of the old guys are still around to tell their stories.
I agree with Wilson too. The high tech and strategies are way more complex than say Baseball or Football. IMHO. And The patriotism is beyond compare. The Opening Ceremonies, Flybys almost every race, flags everywhere. (brings a tear to this rednecks eye "0)
I woulda thunk that most "guys" are into motorsports. I grew up with racing of all kinds so I am a bit biased. I also drag raced a motorcycle. I love the noise... & smell of burning rubber and fumes!
I think I'll put up a Jeff Gordon #24 avatar. :D

What I don't get about "NASCAWR" is the way people decide to cheer for - they love this driver, they hate this one...these two drivers don't like each other because one of them used to race for the other guys team, etc, etc, etc...it's worse than pro wrestling.
I understand most team sports...you root for your home state (or city) team, your college, high school, ...
Racing I don't get; how do you form an alliance for some guy from who knows where?
In fact, I live about 30 miles from the home town of Matt Kinseth...you think everyone around here would cheer for him...nope.
...and while I'm on the subject; Dale Earnhardt was not a president, a saint, or a great humanitarian...if I see one more jacked up, mufferless pickup truck with an"RIP Dale, We Love You #3" window sticker right next to a confederate flag, I'm going to puke!
...and no, I don't know what Fanniemae beer is! ;)
Man, do I feel better!!!

I know two women who love JG. They both have used his name in their AIM screen names.
I like classic cars and cool looking cars. I love some of the new designs that have started to come out over the last several years. Cars are finally starting to look neat again. I have owned a 65 Pontiac Tempest, a 66 Plymouth Fury III Convertable and my current vehicle is an Infiniti FX45. I love the cruisers weekend in Ocean City every May. I sit out on my balcony and just watch all the old cars go by. Last year there were 9,200! All 1976 or before.
That said, I still hate NASCAR. I have friends that like to go to Richmond or Delaware to watch racing. They tell me I should go just once and bring my RV. That it's fun to park in the race area and watch from the roof. No Thanks!
